My family did Ryan's when I was in college and a few years after when one opened near us.Ryan's was my favorite of all the buffet steakhouses back in the day. Quincy's and Golden Corral seemed like they had the name recognition, but Ryan's was where it was at.
Coincidentally, I'm pretty sure all of the places I've mentioned here had an Independence Blvd. location in Charlotte. So did K&W, actually.
When we’re in Gastonia we go to Tony’s. Love the milkshakes.Gastonia still has Jackson's Cafeteria, so I have somewhere to go when I need cafeteria-style dining.
I feel fortunate and invite any of you to join me, if/when you're in the area.
It was in SouthPark. I remember going there as a kid. I fucking hated it.Does anyone remember Morrison's cafeteria? I remember there being one inside I think a Belks department store in Charlotte - maybe at Eastland Mall?
I remember going to the one in Charlotte as a kid. RC Cola served in mason jars.Remember Po Folks?

The Taste Bud: Revisiting Memories of Po Folks Restaurant — Kevin Gibson
Who remembers Po Folks restaurant? I recently got into a conversation with a friend about the place and later decided to do a little research. You know what? Po Folks still exists.www.kevingibsonwriter.com
My family also frequent Tony’s when they find themselves in Gastonia. When we’re in Gastonia we go to Tony’s. Love the milkshakes.
It's only about a mile from Jackson's to Tony's, you could easily do both in one meal. When we’re in Gastonia we go to Tony’s. Love the milkshakes.
Thanks for the info. Next time we’ll go to Jackson’s for lunch and Tony’s for dessert. It's only about a mile from Jackson's to Tony's, you could easily do both in one meal.
And, yes, Tony's is absolutely great.
You remember correctly. Piccadilly apparently has ~25 locations left and still operates one as a Morrison's in Mobile (where the MC chain started). If I remember correctly (doubtful) Morrison's and K&W were sold to Piccadilly...my favorite. Is Piccadilly still operating? Not here.
I suddenly feel like the unofficial food PR spokesperson for Gastonia. Thanks for the info. Next time we’ll go to Jackson’s for lunch and Tony’s for dessert.
As far as I know, there are no cafeteria chains left in the whole of the Triangle. Sad Trump economy indeed. The Trump economy is so bad that K&W can’t stay in business. Impeach immediately.
Without looking, private equity strikes again?
I’m not even really sad, just nostalgic.I don't think so. I think it's basically nobody (other than the elderly) wanting to pay for nursing home food when they go out to eat. I know there are a lot of people sad due to the nostalgia but most buffet style restaurants aren't going to survive.
