By the way, after Trump, I'd be fully in favor of removing politician names from all buildings. Airports, in particular, could sell naming rights to corporations. We could have the American Airlines airport in Dallas or the Delta Airlines Airport in Atlanta or the JP Morgan airport in Queens. A lot of the airports run at deficits anyway, so why can't they make a profit on naming rights. Why is the public giving away valuable real estate names to politicians?

OK @EyeballKid, you can keep paying $6.50 for your Dasani water at the Hudson's store at your politician airport, and I'll enjoy my $3 water at a properly funded corporate-named airport.

Jfc, do we really need corporate naming on every last thing in the country? Sports stadiums, endowed university chairs, buildings, parks, concert venues, etc just aren’t enough?

Especially if it saves money.

The next basketball arena is not going to have Dean's name in it, that is for sure. And if Dean's name has to go, I see no reason why I need to fly into Harry Reid International every time I go to Vegas. I mean he was not a racist senator like McCarron, but we don't need to name stuff after him.

The whole naming municipal projects after politicians thing seems vaguely autocratic and/or monarchal.

Where’s the money savings coming from??

Again, when’s the last time you bought a beer or meal at a corporate-named NFL, NBA, or MLB stadium? Did you find those prices cheap in comparison to airport prices?

Look, I’m not against revisiting the naming conventions of airports or any other publicly supported venues. However, you’re nuts if you think that service would be better or prices would be cheaper.

There is a difference between municipal owned buildings and corporate-owned buildings.

Anyway, I don't feel strongly about it. As long as nothing owned by the federal government has Trump's name on it.

SoFi pays $30 million a year for its naming rights in LA -- and that is a facility with 2% of the traffic as JFK (albeit with much greater media visibility).

Government buildings like airports collect public fees in multiple ways, including the aforementioned $6.50 water from Hudson's and the passenger facility fees. Lots of other government projects charge taxpayers -- most notably highways. If we sold naming rights to those, it would reduce the costs borne by the public.

You could take the Chick-Fil-A expressway to the Delta Airlines Airport or perhaps ride on the Home Depot train system to get there instead.

You don't like that idea? You want to keep naming roads for dead police officers and weird numbers?

I'm only half serious. But the whole Trump naming thing has caused me to reevaluate our entire naming conventions.

It can't be said enough that Trump (and most MAGAs) are the most socially insecure people alive. It simply eats him up, and has for decades, that respectable people in NYC and elsewhere have refused to admit him into their good graces and accept him as an equal. And so this is his way of one-upping them and trying to force himself to be respected - plaster his name on prestigious performing arts centers, build gaudy monuments in the nation's capital city to himself, and so on. And his base, which has also long felt deep resentment towards city and college-educated folk that look down on them, eats it up. It's a key part of his personality and makeup, along with more base drives like greed, narcissism, bigotry, extreme self-centeredness, etc.

As I said, I have zero problems revisiting naming conventions. And I get it—I don’t want Trump’s name…or the names of any of our past racists and otherwise despicable politicians or public figures—on our roadways or airports or museums.

But I remain unconvinced that corporate naming would curb consumer costs in any way.

And I’m generally opposed to further entrenching the corporate takeover of every facet of our society.

The only way I want to MAGA is paying $3 a beer at RFK Stadium in the 80’s-90’s versus the $20 I pay now for one at the corporate sponsored stadium in Landover.
