Matt Campbell may be our top choice but I would not describe him as "most likely" by any stretch of the imagination. He's turned down NFL jobs, Notre Dame, USC, etc. That doesn't necessarily mean he wouldn't leave for UNC, of course, but I don't have high hopes that someone who turns down programs that are willing to commit significantly more resources than we are, is going to come to UNC. I'd love to be wrong. He'd be our best hire since Butch Davis.
Some people have the awareness to understand that at some programs the expectations are so high it's basically impossible to actually enjoy what you are doing. Anything but a top five finish has you on the hot seat every year. Different sport, but Mark Few for example chooses quality of life over constant unyielding pressure even though he has to get by on only $2 million a year.

Would have thought Campbell was impossible a month ago, but apparently the interest is serious. We should all be pulling like hell for Arizona State tomorrow lol. If they win and go to the playoff then the Campbell pipe dream will definitely be dead. Sumrall would be a hell of a consolation prize.

If both of those guys turn us down and we aren’t serious about taking a swing on a more raw up and comer like Schumann, then fuck it, hire Belichick. Why not at this point.

Looking strong for 73. I don't know if the Michelin Man UNC coat would be flattering on Bill.1000014468.jpg

We are blowing it. Big Time.

We can save it, but it won't be easy.

Things are breaking down with BB.

Campbell was a big fat no despite offering 6.5 million. He's making 4 million at Iowa State and 6.5 couldn't sway him.

Sumrall isn't happening now after his agent and UNC never could come to any kind of agreement on package.

If we can't get BB, it's gonna be rough.

How do you know things are breaking down with Belichick?

Campbell sumrall bb it doesnt matter theres no guarantees whatsoever. Big odds favor its gonna be a huge waste of tens of millions on someone who is gonna fail. Since there are no guarantees i simply cant understand not hiring the best lower div coach who is smart and very ambitious. Pay him 250k a yr and throw in a bunch of huge incentives for winning. Try something different for once....odds are it has as good a chance as working as the same ol same ol that has proven to not work at unc and cost us tens of millions

So your strategy is to pay Division II level money to get a coach?

Why not? Or div 3? What weve been doing for decades and spending tens of millions on has gotten us what? Mediocre football at best? What do we have to lose taking a chance on a smart ambitious young coach from a lower division?

I dont expect most knucklehead fans to think outside the box though.

What we lose is any shot of joining the Big Ten or SEC at any point in the near future.

Anyone else watch the Bill Belichick interview at 1:10p on the Pat McAfee Show?

It was very UNC focused and seemed to strongly hint that there is a serious chance he's our next HC.

Good chance, but still negotiating. Need to move quick.

If we're close to a deal we need to seal the deal before positions harden and/or the parties start backtracking.

As someone who negotiates and closes deals for a living, I am thrilled I don't have thousands of people on internet message boards looking over my shoulder the entire time telling me how to negotiate and how to cross the finish line, LOL.

That said, nothing about UNC sports rights now gives me anything other than a Charlie Brown/Lucy/football vibe -- Curse of the Tick!!!!

Yeah, but the good news is that almost none of them actually know anything.

We really have no clue how it's coming unless and until there is some announcement.

Oh, yeah, it's clear that most know nothing about what is actually happening (and in this case perhaps NO ONE posting knows anything at all).

At this point, I hope its Belichick & Son because I don't think I can take another Nascarl/Bunting hire. But I gotta say that Belichick feels like it could make the Butch Davis era look serene ... and I worry about him walking off the job after a few weeks of dealing with recruiting/NIL or mid-season if he thinks college kids are crybabies or whatever. Or him getting sued by players for using harsh language or something.

*sigh*
