I still have plenty of MAGA relatives back in my hometown, but we usually get along as we have an agreement not to discuss politics. As long as that holds - and it generally has - then there are no problems. Luckily in my family most of my generation is more liberal or at least definitely anti-Trump, so it's easier to talk politics with relatives who are close to my age. I also can't help but notice that those who are close to my age who are more liberal left home after high school and either never moved back (like me) or traveled a good deal (perhaps in the military) before finally moving back to my hometown. So they've experienced the world outside of rural, mostly white, Southern Baptist small-town NC. Those relatives who never left my hometown and have spent nearly their entire life there are usually as right-wing and MAGA as they come. There are a few exceptions, but only a few. I'm sure it's not the same with every family, though.
