I’m reminded of a comment in The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings about orcs.

Someone, maybe Sam or Merry/Pippin, said something about two gangs of orcs along the lines of “I hope they keep fighting and kill each other off.”

A wiser head said, “Yes. They might. As soon as they see us though, they’ll stop fighting amongst themselves and kill us. They hate each other; they hate us more.”

Sam and Frodo are in Mordor. They hear 2 orcs following them. The orcs are arguing and the result is one kills the other. Sam expresses hope, while Frodo tells him the orcs do hate each other but they hate us more. If they had seen us they would have stopped their arguing until we were dead.
