March Madness - And then there were Two

Division III Men's National Champion the Eagles of The University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. They were 30-3 and play in the Coast to Coast Athletic Conference (Frankly I don't know how they pull it off with teams in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and California)

Mary Washington's Schedule: 2025-26 Men's Basketball Schedule - University of Mary Washington

I've visited the campus and have a good friend that teaches there. It is high level academically and fields a full range of sports teams: University of Mary Washington - Official Athletics Website

I love Division III sports, especially basketball. Wish UNCA would "drop down" in fact.

My "issue" is that their core ole school SEC Universities just suck Bama has really improved-they are now ranked 189 or some such lol And they are that way because they just don't care to fund education
The University of Alabama has actually been very aggressive in bringing in high achieving students from out of state. I don’t know if this is still the case but for many years and as recently as 3-4 years ago, they gave full tuition to National Merit finalists. We coerced our daughter to apply there just as a safety option. Oklahoma as well. She was quite happy to decline the offers, noting that their school colors were a bit too on point.

I think people are giving Hurley too much credit here. Their only hope tonight is if Reed can play well against a very stingy interior defense, AND they come alive outside the arc. But Karaban has been a mess and Ball has a foot thing.

You never know, but I dont think both of those things happen for UConn, and I think Michigan handles them fairly easily tonight.

The Yaxel injury is somewhat of a lifeline for UConn

I know Michigan didn’t need him Saturday but you can’t count on the team shooting it that well again

Even so UConn will basically have to play a perfect game to win. My money would not be on that happening
