Rumor is that filing such a suit ahead of the election was a GOP demand (as cover for down-ballot Republicans with their own supporters) to avoid trying to have Robinson removed from the ticket. I think it is widely expected to be, ahem, aborted as you note, but the filing law firm has to pay heed to their ethical obligations. I doubt anyone will bring (or would succeed) with an ethics complaint after the case is dropped because presumably it will be dropped at the direction of the client, but no law firm wants to be embroiled in that.

Robinson can't just drop it and walk away if CNN or the porn shop employee counterclaim first. They may not care enough to go after his broke ass but I wish they would.

Don't think a potential defendant can file a counterclaim until they are served. This lawsuit has been filed by the plaintiff, but I don't know if the defendants have been served.

Rule 4(j5) says that the Defendant can accept service by filing an ackowledgement of service with the court. Then the Defendant can file the counterclaim. And it's not like the Plaintiff can then come back and say he never intended to serve the lawsuit on the Defendant. But unfortunately CNN probably won't bother with proactively trying to counterlclaim before they are actually served by traditional means.

I just want him to end up like Giuliani selling off everything he owns, although I doubt Robinson has very much to take given his previous bankruptcy and wife's recent bust for day care fraud or whatever it was.

What counterclaim would CNN have at this point? Has Robinson done anything legally actionable?

I'm not an expert on the subject but corporations can sue individuals for slander too (I think Dominion has done a lot of this over the lies about their voting machines) and Robinson is saying the entire story is flat out tabloid lies made up out of thin air to ruin his candidacy. I'm pretty sure if this case ever gets to discovery it will be unequivocally proven that everything they reported is 100% true. The porn shop owner is also a Defendant and I'm sure he has some sort of actionable claim for being sued for telling the truth.

The porn shop owner also has a claim related to minisoldr's delinquent bootleg porn bill. The Lt. Governor owes him money.
 
I have coached a youth basketball team the last few years and I had a really sweet kid play on our team last year. Within the last week or so, his dad has posted a picture of the two of them with Mark Robinson, after all of the damning evidence against him had come out. It really is a cult and a slow moving coup, as Bill Maher calls it.
 
So after the venerable Jeff Jackson graced our fair city yesterday... one Mark Robinson was seen in a local watering hole here later in the day... yesterday evening around 6pm. (He supposedly had a "rally" at "HorsePower Park" just outside of town. (the place is nothing but a dirtbike/4 -wheeler/4x4 dirt track for off - road racing and "Monster Truck" events. Their website had NO MENTION of a Mark Robinson "rally". So it was basically a nothing burger.)

Shortly after 6 pm, some friends got a wind of Robinson being in town - at this wine bar - so they went there wearing their Harris/Walz t-shirts from the Women's March earlier in the day. They reported back saying "there was hardly anyone in the wine bar with Robinson." "He didn't give any sort of speech or anything. He simply walked around, went back outside". There he was on the sidewalk, near another watering hole which has outdoor seating on the sidewalk - which was packed with Saturday night revelers. Everyone just stopped, looked at Robinson walking by, and ONLY ONE person, started clapping - very slowly, almost a polite, quiet little "golf clap". Sort of a sympathy clap, if you will. No one else clapped or said anything. Robinson simply walked to his "limo", got in and drove away.

Any bets on how many people show up in Elon today for this fat fart?

I knew a nice kid in the 60's. Chapel Hill had a lot of protests-counterprotests-over integration then. This poor kid is forever immortalized by a picture of him holding a sign his dad gave him

That story gives me the same feeling I get when I see parents post pictures of their kids wearing Trump gear or standing by/holding Trump signs.

Yeah man - imagine if they had Facebook and Twitter in the 1930s, how many Germans would have had permanent photographic evidence of their parents dressing them up in brownshirts and swastikas.
