Mark Robinson thread | Sues CNN for Naked Africa reporting

Could also be that the Republicans have had this dirt on Robinson for a while. Good to keep him in line. Now that they see he’s a loser, they deploy it to get him out of the race.
Nah. They would have put on the pressure before now. Look at what happened with Biden. He did eventually come to realize that his position was untenable, but it took a while. The idea that they are going to show Robinson this material and tell him to get out within 24 hours -- it's not plausible to me. It would a terrible way of accomplishing that ostensible goal.

I suppose it's possible that they've been using this as blackmail for a while, hoping to get Robinson to withdraw by the threat of publication, and now that he's not playing ball, they've ramped up the pressure. Still, I am skeptical.

Also remember that the real deadline to withdraw was September 6. The only reason that he's able to withdraw now is because of the Supreme Court's fuckery. That was not a predictable event and I doubt anyone worked this possibility into their planning.

Like you said earlier though, no reason to think the NC Supreme Court won’t go along with whatever at this point.
Right. I just don't think this feels like a Pub operation because the timing is wrong. Maybe they are taking advantage of a windfall, so to speak. I suppose anything is possible. It's just that if they've had this material -- and I have to think that it didn't just surface in the last two weeks -- I can't see why they didn't use it before the real withdrawal deadline. It's not as if Robinson has done something extra bad in the past two weeks. He's the same cretin he always was, unless I've missed something. If they want him out now, they would have wanted him out then.

To me, this feels like Stein's team sent oppo to CNN a little while ago. CNN has been building the story (perhaps that's why it is reportedly so damning -- it must be well-sourced). The original plan was to come in after the withdrawal deadline (note: that might not have been the prime consideration. It's also possible they held it until people were paying attention after Labor Day), and then NCSC did its thing.

The deadline was two weeks ago. This is a new NC Supreme Court created deadline. Who's to say they won't make another exception?

Ah, the statute says "A person who has been declared the nominee of a political party for a specified office under the provisions of G.S. 163-182.15 or G.S. 163-110, shall not be permitted to resign as a candidate unless, prior to the first day on which military and overseas absentee ballots are transmitted to voters under Article 21A of this Chapter, that [the] person submits to the board of elections which certified the nomination a written request that person be permitted to withdraw. "

And that deadline was two weeks ago. But this says prior to the first day on which military and overseas ballots ARE transmitted. So the NC court, giving RFK the ability to delay the distribution of ballots, also gave Robinson an extension. But I doubt they will delay the ballot printing AGAIN, so if he withdraws, his name will be on the ballot.
they will be in violation of federal law if they delay any more

they will be in violation of federal law if they delay any more
I don't think they care about that. There are not, to my knowledge, any consequences for missing the deadlines other than being in violation of law. These justices simply do not care about being in violation of law.

His name on the ballot, even if it's a weird "hey but his votes will go for HY generic rich white guy who really doesnt care about you but says he will" - that will tank them. Low information voters...which are most folks...still will see his name.

I mean even in the Dem primary I didn't vote for Mark F Robinson (different race) because I knew nothing about him but couldnt vote for a similar named dude. I admit it

Haha, suckers. I've never even contemplated voting for a GOP candidate at any level and I'm proud of that.

J/k about the suckers part. Not kidding about my longstanding animosity toward the GOP. When I was a young boy I figured out that the GOP sold snake oil and racism, and wanted nothing to do with it.
