I think this is the second or third time that I remember security staff at the church shooting someone to stop a mass shooter. That's kind of insane.

First, I'm glad there wasn't a mass shooting. Second, is it normal for churches to have armed security now? I've moved away from Christianity but growing up I went to a Methodist Church with about 200 people attending every week. So not megachurch big but pretty big. I can't even imagine someone being armed at the church for security. Has that changed?

“… According to Maj. Aaron Turk with the sheriff’s office, an investigation revealed that one of the shooters from inside the party inadvertently struck and killed Hood. The person was reportedly among other armed partygoers returning fire at others shooting into the party from an elevated position in a neighbor’s yard.

“Our investigation into that point has been thorough,” Turk said during Tuesday’s meeting. “In North Carolina, the laws regarding self-defense are clear.”

It was believed that the gunmen on the hillside started the shooting, though it wasn’t clear how many alleged shooters were firing from that spot.

Deputies said in total, the shooters fired at least 80 shotsfrom varying distances.

Turk said multiple weapons were used, though, as of this writing, they haven’t released information on the specific types. Turk also confirmed that a “long weapon” was believed to have been used at some point.

As of this writing, it remains unclear what led up to the shooting.…”
