Police had no prior history with him. Sounds like his mom used to work at the school.
So how would someone like this be prevented from buying a gun? No criminal record, potentially no mental health history. Sometimes bad things just happen.

You mean someone that should have raised flags because people knew he was obsessed with mass shootings, and the stuff he posted online? Maybe at least take away the assault weapons and high capacity magazines to give the kids a better chance at surviving.

Minneapolis Catholic school gunman ID’d as Robin Westman— while possible manifesto shows psychotic obsession with mass shooters

“… Police are investigating whether a series of sick YouTube videos shared on an account hours before the shooting was connected to Westman, law enforcement sources told The Post…”

NYPost says one of the mags says “kill Donald Trump” (though as fast as I can tell that has not been included with the photos).
“Kill Trump Now!” is visible on the bottom of the scope in the tweet that ends with “many far-right, white”.

More people are killed by fists and blunt objects than by rifles of any kind in the US. I agree that he should have been reported, but law-abiding citizens should not be punished because people dropped the ball (again).

Do we know if the shooter was a law-abiding citizen prior to today?

What a stupid take. Enough. Super Ignore. Please get help before you hurt others or yourself.

Same way the rest of the world does it?
We aren't like the rest of the world. There are more guns than people here, and the 2nd amendment means that the genie is not going back in the bottle. So what's the solution? These things have been happening for years. Unfortunately I believe that given our country's history and our legal landscape there is not much more than can be done. I'm all for red flag laws, but people have to report suspicious behavior and law enforcement and the judicial system have to be able to act on those reports. How many times did PD visit the Parkland shooter's home prior to the shooting? Wasn't it dozens, and still nothing was done?

Law abiding citizens shouldn’t be punished? I guess the dead kids were all criminals if law abiding citizens aren’t being punished.
Like I said before, bad things happen. We can't legislate ourselves to 100% security. There's simply no realistic way to do so.

You are making a logical fallacy that I often see on both the right and the left. The fact that something won't 100% solve a problem does not mean that it is not worth doing at all. That is a perfectionist fallacy.

The value of gun control does not turn on whether it can prevent 100% of shooting deaths.
