Just FYI, there are gangs in Hickory, although they are “local” gangs with little to no affiliation with gangs from outside the area.
The claim was that it was inner city violence. That claim has been subsequently modified/clarified. I just googled gang related shootings in Hickory and there were a few hits, from 5-8 years ago, mostly about residents suspecting gang violence. Given that frequency, it is possible but the background probability says it's quite unlikely.

Come on, people. This is graduation season. Has nobody had kids graduate recently? They all throw huge parties with alcohol, etc. That’s almost certainly what this was. Just a bunch of drunk local 18 yo’s, and someone with a gun got mad.
Per police, it was multiple people with guns and 80+ shots fired. I’m thinking my initial theory is looking more and more likely. Most normal “parties” don’t have a single armed person, let alone several.

I have never been to Catawba County, or not that I can remember. Might have driven through. So I have nothing to say specifically.

Again, going by background probabilities, it's most likely not gang-related. It might be drug-related. Or it might be lawtig's theory. His theory has the advantage of offering an excellent explanation for why so many shots were fired in close quarters and only one person died.

Lawtig’s theory was discredited during the press conference. Multiple shooters were present and the ages of the people at the party ranged from teens to 30s. Generally, when groups of people at a party start shooting at each other there is a gang (or wannabe gang) element involved.

A neighbor who was interviewed believed the shots came from two different cars that may have had people shooting at one another.

Yeah that is not at all inconsistent with this being a graduation party for locals.

It is pretty inconsistent with “a kid with a gun getting mad at a party.” If you have two armed groups at a party shooting it out with each other, that probably isn’t random. Also, I went to plenty of parties as a high schooler and no one brought guns to any of them. But the wannabe gangster culture encourages that behavior.

Not sure where that quote came from but it wasn’t my post.

Cops visited the home around 11 pm for a noise complaint and left after they had things quieted down. The next call at 12:45 was shots fired.

“… About 90 minutes after the shooting, police called it an isolated incident and said there is no risk to the community. They did not release any information on possible suspects or what led to the shooting.

The shooting happened around a boat dock near the Intracoastal Waterway.

… A North Myrtle Beach police officer responding to the shooting accidentally shot himself in the leg at a marina about 3 miles (5 kilometers) away and is in the hospital in stable condition, North Myrtle Beach spokeswoman Lauren Jessie said. …”

And Hickory said to Horry: "Hold my beer!"
