nice. are you a big murakami fan? i love him. haven't read the wind up bird chronicle yet but i loved kafka, after dark, hard boiled wonderland, norwegian wood and the city and its uncertain walls. about to start 1Q84.

Have only read Wind up and 1Q84. Going to read Kafka next when I get the craving. His characterization of the antagonist's media savvy in Wind up (p76) is percipient.

As a Darden grad let me just say this: You apparently don't know the first fucking thing about UVA if you think it is some haven for right-wingnuttery. Additionally, my sister has a Columbia MBA, and I assure you that if you think that program is some leftist sanctuary, well then you are, as usual, utterly incorrect.

As a total aside: I don't know if its still the case or one of those MBA urban legends, but didn't Darden have the highest workload of any Top 25 program?

Was talking with a friend who has a daughter who just graduated from Brown. This could have really happened at pretty much any college in the US, save maybe for those that are smack in the middle of large cities that have all their buildings on permanent lockdown. You can walk into many classroom buildings in colleges across the country (I certainly have done so). And most colleges don't have a surveillance camera on every point of access or scattered across the college.
This was one deranged guy on a deranged mission. Three persons are the victims to this senseless tragedy.

This shouldn't be a sweeping referendum on Brown University, Physics grad students, or immigrants.
