If you know these people and grew up around them and in that culture, it actually isn't at all surprising. The loathing and fear of many social conservatives for anything LGBTQ related is off the charts. Many of them probably would rather lose their welfare benefits and struggle under Trump than give rights or acceptance to LGBTQ people. But yeah, it is definitely insane in the greater scheme of things. The rest of us have to suffer so they can feel safe that a transgender person isn't playing girls' sports or might use a woman's public restroom somewhere.
It's all about making themselves feel better and have power over others, even if they are still poor white trash.

I think everyone underestimates the amount of emotional sexual trauma -- and too often physical as well -- that is experienced by children and adolescents who grow up in evangelical circles.

We're truly a sick, sick society now. And we've got a government that sees at least half of its own citizens (and legal immigrants) as enemies of the state to be persecuted, harassed, arrested, held in jail for days or longer without legal representation, fired from their jobs and their careers destroyed merely for speaking their mind and freedom of speech (or for just existing, like transgenders), deported to foreign prisons, and on and on. And even though it seems like he's been in office for four years already it's been less than nine months. Dark times for America for sure.

“…2. Using the phrase “political retribution” to describe defending the lives and safety of ICE officers from domestic terrorism is utterly appalling.

3. Imagine thinking the Founders would be in favor of the border invasion of 20 million illegals.”

This is true. Back then, the only people who were being kicked out were the people who were here first.
Wasn't just back then. Restricted immigration as a comprehensive policy is only a century old.

The United States first enacted numerically restrictive immigration policies with the Immigration Act of 1924, which established a national origins quota system that heavily favored Northern and Western Europeans and completely excluded immigrants from Asia. This law significantly restricted immigration, ending the prior era of largely unrestricted entry.

Apparently a couple of Trump toadies who got on the Ninth Circuit are prepared to stay the order preventing deployment in Portland.

I would imagine the 9th Circuit overruling that panel en banc. One would certainly hope so.
