I'm obviously not referring to that. I'm talking about arresting people here illegally.

In their rush to meet quotas, and likely because they are under-trained, mistakes are being made.
They are just doing their job. And by that I am referring only the legal actions and not the illegal ones.

Did I get that right, Zen?

Actually it is doing their job. Don't like quotas, but they are literally doing their job.
Doing their job literally involves due process. You know, those annoying little details like obtaining warrants, allowing detainees a phone call and an opportunity to speak to an attorney, not needlessly ramming into cars, violently arresting people for the crime of being brown, killing family pets, etc. What they are doing is waging a campaign of intimidation and thuggery. I realize that’s a small difference to you, but for normal, decent people it’s unacceptable.

So did the Gestapo. Law enforcement being "proactive" -- whatever you mean by that -- is usually considered totalitarian. You know, like Minority Report.
Reactive meaning, for example, that they aren't waiting for states to contact them, as states often do, when they have a criminal non-citizen.

Proactive meaning that they are apparently looking for reasons to deport people they don't think should be here. For example, Mahmoud Khalil being deported for not disclosing that he worked for UNRWA is something that wouldn't have happened under previous administrations.

So in other words, they absolutely aren’t “just doing their jobs.”
They are doing a lot of illegal things are are not their jobs.
That’s the issue here.
Right, but local law enforcement screws up consistently and it's generally not this big of a story.
