Heh, I took a week break from this board as a palate cleanser. Helps a lot.

The trick (for me at least) is be able to disengage from the media while not disengaging from the politics (i.e. continuing to do volunteer work to rally democrats).

They WANT you to disengage completely, that is the 100% the end game. They want and need you on the sidelines watching with apathy and disgust, feeling powerless.

But it's 1000% OK to pull the plug on the media (including this board) from time to time. Don't worry, you won't miss anything, the same basic threat to American democracy will be there, There's really nothing new in the latest Trump tweetstorm vileness that is going to change the fundamental underlying facts on the ground. We all know pretty much where we stand now. Media at this point is entirely optional.

With that being said, activism and volunteer work is not optional, It's your duty as a patriotic American. Many have been called and answered the call to sacrifice much more (i.e. their lives) for causes less important the the fight we are in now (e.g. GWB's Middle East Adventurism). We are fighting to save American democracy, no more, no less.

I don't know about you, but one single truly effective destressor and form of self care for me is to do the work. Volunteer. Control what I can control. Go into this knowing that when called, I actually did something. Not much, not as much as is needed, or as much as "humanly possible", but something dammit. Something more than bitch on a message board, something in the real world.

And, for me at least, it's that taking real world action that is the thing that unclentches the little ball of fear in my belly just a little bit. If you're struggling with anxiety about this election, my advice is unplug the media, and get out in the real world and take action. Action is medicine (in this case).

Man, I’m starting to think I’ve missed out! I’m approaching mid 30s and to this day in my life I have never taken a single drug, not even marijuana or nicotine, not one time. Y’all are giving me some FOMO
Same and I'm almost a decade older than you. Might need to get some recs on this thread 😂

I got a good laugh this morning out of the mental health thread morphing into a discussion about various drugs :ROFLMAO:
There are more and more studies showing that the drugs help.

My daughter has done a couple of ketamine treatments and they were life changing and positive.

I've read of positive mdma treatments for ptsd also.

I've probably done acid, mdma, and psilocybin a few dozen times. All were positive. Compared to drinking which I had multiple stupid or bad experiences, I'll take the hallucinogens every time.

Those ketamine treatments were life changing for Matthew Perry, too. User discretion advised.

i have a buddy who grows PE mushrooms. at request he will grind them up and put them in capsules so i can really control the dosage.

its the best thing ever.

Fantastic resource. I have one of those neighbors that knows everyone and everything about everyone. They always have "a friend". I don't exactly get the confidence of chain-of-custody knowledge, but it hasn't failed me yet.

You've taken alcohol, I'm guessing. Don't go anywhere near nicotine. It's not worth it. You get a buzz for a couple of minutes and then nothing.

I've always preferred cannabis to alcohol, ever since I was a teenager. And back then, we either didn't have sativa/indica or I didn't know about the difference. I think sativa is great because it is mentally stimulating, unlike booze which pretty much dulls you down. Now, mentally stimulating isn't exactly the same thing as mentally acute. I wouldn't want to take a calculus test with any amount of sativa, but since I've been writing fiction I've found that I'm at my creative best a bit buzzed on sativa.

The trick is finding it. With all the fentanyl and other ferociously powerful OD-engine opiates doing around, I would not want to take chances on illicit supply. My wife had a patient in Missouri a few years ago whose best friend died from a fentanyl overdose that he claimed was from tainted cannabis (this guy was an open heroin user seeing my wife for medication-assisted therapy, so he had no reason to hide what drugs he was really taking). I've since read that lacing cannabis isn't a thing, but I'm skeptical. It would be better to drop your kids with the inlaws or neighbors, drive to Missouri with the missus, get a room and a vape product, and have fun. Vacations don't get much cheaper.

I don't believe his were treatments.

What my daughter participated in was very controlled.

I've also spoken with and read about multiple others who have had successful treatments.

He started out with controlled. But then he developed an addiction.

yeah, i tell anyone and everyone who will listen that unless you personally know the grower/producer, only buy weed products from licensed dispensaries.

even if you get some sort of street product that isn't tainted with fentanyl or something really dangerous you are very likely just wasting your money on something bunk that contains little to no THC. so many of the black market pens and concentrates are vegetable glycerin or vitamin E acetate.

There are no dispensaries in my part of the world. I buy online and they bring it to my door. Since the THCA bud comes with a form letter from the secretary of state certifying that this was grown to their standards and met all the conditions of the Farm Bill of 2018. That's a hell of a lot better provenance that anything I got for most of the first 45 years I smoked.

Yeah but 45 years ago they weren't cutting with fentanyl. I don't have any idea why someone would cut with Strychnine but that ain't in the same ballpark of danger as the synthetic opiates.

He started out with controlled. But then he developed an addiction.
And I'm not saying it's perfect. There are risk. Unfortunately he had people who were more interested in money than his well being.

Meh...
Man, I’m starting to think I’ve missed out! I’m approaching mid 30s and to this day in my life I have never taken a single drug, not even marijuana or nicotine, not one time. Y’all are giving me some FOMO
Meh... I've tried most all of them and it's my opinion that you are not missing out.

My advice from a self medication standpoint is, first of all, IF IT'S NOT BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!

My second piece of advise it if you are taking recurring dosages regularly, you are at very best, treating a symptom, not a root cause. My advice is the get a handle on the cause, and not medicate the symptom away.

I find it wildly ironic that a lot of folks want to trash a big pharma boogie man for only extracting money by treating symptoms and not root causes by prescribing chemicals, while simultaneously layout out loads of money for chemicals that at best treat symptoms and not root causes.

Chemical compounds are chemical compounds. They have no ******* idea if they were manufactured inside a lab or inside of a plant (which, from your body's perspective, is a wildly alien and potentially harmful environment). Chemicals are what they are. Some just come with double blind clinical trials proving efficacy and lack of side effects that are worse than the condition they are supposed to treat.

And the last thing I'll say is that I'm kinda over psychoactives since the assholes migrated over to them. Once upon a time the drug of choice for an asshole was cocaine. Nowadays it's my observation that the drug of choice for the assholes are psychedelics.

To be super clear, I'm not saying anyone who uses psychedelics is an asshole. Merely that it's my observation that a lot of assholes are suddenly all about some psychedelics.
