Our daughter and her family live on the street above us. We do Christmas with her, her husband and the 3 children on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day we go watch the kids open their presents. When they were little our granddaughter(she’s the oldest) would call us at the ass crack of dawn to come see because they couldn’t go down stairs until we got there. They are in college now, and you just about have to drag them out of bed on Christmas Morning. At least I get to sleep a little later.
I remember the first time I spent Christmas with my former wife’s family.

The entire family made fun of how early her younger brother (age 26) got up on Christmas morning and made the rest of the family get up……5, 5:30, 6:00 am…..

On a normal day off, he woke up at 9, 10 or so.

He was the sainted child in the family, so they all accommodated him.

I told him that I was willing to be up and celebrating Christmas at 8:00 am (the youngest person in the house was 17). I added that if he woke me earlier, I’d go into a bathroom and not come out until 9:00 am.

The entire family was glad to end the childish early start to Christmas. 8:00 am it was (the 17 year-old was hoping for 10, but damn glad it wasn’t 5 or 6).

I was doing pretty good with this being the first Christmas without my father until I opened up the Christmas card from my mom and she had signed it "Love Mom and Dad"

Probably the saddest point I've been at since his passing in September.
My mom died in July 1996 and she left a card that would be found when we got out the Christmas wrapping paper/decorations.

And it took you this long to find it?! ;)

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it. And Merry Thursday to those who don't.

I'll leave you with something I did many years ago.

Still not Xmas in Hawaii. But for the Aussie chemistry professors we hung out with today on the visit to Volcano National Park, it was already Xmas at home. Their whole jet lag thing is about figuring out what day it is, not so much adjusting to the time change.

Anyway, Merry Xmas to all who celebrate and to all a good night. Love you guys.

ugh....I fucking hate this "holiday" and not because I'm some scrooge. I hate it beccause it's 1) a christain appropriated "holiday" that has little to no value other than celebrating the birth of someone who wasn't even born in December & 2) even if i were to agree that it was a true celebration of not-white jesus' birthday, it stil has totally lost the meaning behind it with all the forced consumerism. People spending literally 1000's of dollars they probably don't have on someone else for shit they don't need simply because of a fake tradition or because targeted ads tell them "if you love him/her then you need to get them ______" is next-level stupid.

This will also likely be the last xmas my oldest son will be avaliable because he heads to his schoolhouse on Jan 8th then he'll go directly to his first duty station. Currently he's a PFC in the Marines and despite him likly being a LCpl by the time he gets to his next duty station (because he'll be in San Angelo for 9mo to a year for SigInt) he'll still probably not be gonna be granted leave for holidays anytime soon especially since he's unmarried. While I'm super proud of him and happy he's beginning his adult life on a good track...I'm definately gonna miss him A LOT.

Also, I turn 48 on Dec 26th...litereally the worst day for a birthday ever.

so yeah, xmas - and by extension the entire holiday season - can fuck right off.
