Mingo chooses Carolina

Seems the NBA mock drafts have Veesaar going in the bottom of the first round, which provides roughly a $2.5M salary guaranteed for two years. If I were UNC's GM I'd be offering him something like $4M to see if he would stay for another year. Understand it's about getting to the second contract, but if he can get in one year close to what he'd get in two years in the NBA it might be worth it to stay another year. Of course he won't have Caleb Wilson playing beside him, which is a big loss.
Veesaar is also turning 22 this year, so his age will hurt his draft stock if he returns. Unfortunately, for him, this injury may limit his stock as well and he may be best served coming back

HD continues to roll with recruiting. Add this to Maximo Adams, top 20ish SF. It's also speculated that Mingo's brother comes with him
roll? We aren't top 20. 2026 Recruit Basketball Team Rankings

Since HD took over, we've been 18, 32, 8, 5, and 24th. Hardly rolling.

nevertheless, a strong pick up despite Mingo's lack of explosiveness. I don't really mind that if you are smart. See Boozer - he's a below the rim guy who excels at the elbow jumper and drawing fouls.

what HD needs is to finish strong with Keita and Muurinen and then we can say he rolled.

My understanding was NBA execs were not penalizing age these days as much as in the past, but I'm not a big NBA guy so that could be off. It's just a thought to try to get him to stay - I don't think we'll find anyone better in the portal and he's familiar with the scheme so that's a major bonus. Might as well throw a pile of money at him to at least see if we can get him another year.

He is a combo guard-but at this point not a great shooter-so not yuor ideal 2
He is reaaal long for a guard 6'9 wingspan Claims he is a defensive Dawg
We’ve historically been really good at recruiting combo guards who aren’t good shooters.

Meh... not really interested in this fight. No sure why saying anything positive about HD has to be a fight. HD has consistently recruited top tier talent. Recruiting rankings are useless now if not looked at in combination with portal class. HD has failed to build balanced rosters more than once, but his ability to draw top tier freshman talent has been consistently far better than the trajectory Roy was on when he retired. There are plenty of things HD can be criticized for, but his ability to sign top tier talent is not the best hill to die on.

No fight here. I hope for only the best for HD. Just saying rolling is a generous description of his recruiting prowess. Sorry that bothers you. Not my intent. Let's hope for the best.

Fair enough. There are some posters who have a knee jerk reaction to anything positive said about HD (and vice versa). I mistook your post for that. My bad. I think recruiting has been one of his strong points. I know we have not been on par with dook (nobody has), but there has a significant upswing in top 10 to 20ish caliber of recruits as compared to what we were seeing with Roy in the post scandal/ "Roy holds back NBA talent" negative recruiting world.

We still need to be really good with the portal. HD has secured 2 studs (Brady and Henri) but otherwise, not very productive. Hard to say who will be there at this point, but we will need to score.

So no love for Harrison Ingram or Cormac Ryan? I guess Cormac might have been stud adjacent (but his @Cameron game was epic). But Harrison was definitely a stud and led directly to us getting a No. 1 seed in 2024.

Agreed. I also think Stevenson is stud adjacent, if primarily at the defensive end.
Ingram definitely belongs in the "stud" category.

Stevenson is pushing it in terms of "stud adjacent." He's a low-usage role player on a borderline top 20 team. But we're going to be asking a lot of him over the next few weeks with Wilson out, so he has a chance to prove his importance to the team.

Your'e right. Ingram was a stud. Cormac needed others to be a stud but loved his hatred and taunting of dookies. Jury is out of Jarin. So much potential.

Yeah, I dont make any observations about the coaching staff on here anymore really because some folks are so encamped that they are absolutely instant to pounce at even the perception of something contrary to their own stance on Coach Davis.

It is worth noting that HD hadn't had a top 5 pick. Recruits were perhaps taking notice. But now with Caleb being an obvious superstar, perhaps recruits now see us as a possible path to superstardom. I mean, Powell got drafted pretty high so that's a good data point. Now Caleb. And Ian Jackson is someone else's problem.
