Trump has a point in that Walz is part of the problem. Trey Gowdy on his Sunday show warned Walz about his rhetoric:

"Be careful Tim, how you talk, American cops are not the Gestapo. Criminals are not victims. Your crazy rhetoric doesn't move people of sound mind. But it may motivate lunatics to violence."

That said, I'm not saying the President shouldn't have placed a brief call to the Governor. But why doesn't Walz own up to turning down the rhetoric given that two of his associates have been involved in political violence the past several weeks?
and walz's response to that wildly hypocritical advice from trump and gowdy should be "you first."

the right 1000% owns the regressive state of political rhetoric in this country. they lost their minds when a black man was twice elected to the most powerful office in the world and the issue was compounded further by the republican party letting a person who spews blatant lies, slander and vitriol virtually every single time he opens his mouth highjack their party.

GTFOH with this self righteous bullshit, in NO WORLD does the right get to claim the high ground on this issue.

People will disagree about which people here illegally should be deported, but it is literally ICE's job to apprehend them and deport them. They aren't Stasi, gestapo, gazpacho or thugs of any kind. They're doing their job.

So why are they not showing proper identification or wearing proper uniforms? How do you know someone is ICE and not a criminal gang?

From what I read, they only HAVE to show ID if asked to. I don't see why they'd have to wear a uniform any more than an undercover cop would.

Either way, those questions don't change the fact that they're just doing their job...

People can, and will, disagree about who should/shouldn't be deported, but disagreeing doesn't doesn't make someone Hitler or whatever.

and "just doing their job" and "just following orders" has recently proven to include a lot of immoral and illegal actions.

who else in history was notoriously "just following orders?" can't for the life of me figure out how those blindingly obvious gestapo/stasi comparisons came to be.

anyway, it isn't remotely surprising that ICE is very unpopular and taking a lot of flak.

I think part of doing your job as police
Is identifying yourself as police. On this very thread, we are talking about the murder of people caused by someone impersonating a police officer. If ICE or HSI or any of the other immigration police forces want to arrest people, they should follow proper protocols. Otherwise, you are giving a license to bad guys to pretend to be ICE.

I agree 100% that they should Identify themselves. Even identifying doesn't always work. Home invaders yell "Police"... and then invade the home and kill the people inside.

LIke other situations, I'm sure there are mistakes made, but I'm skeptical that all, or even most, ICE agents are failing to identify.

We’ve seen a lot of cellphone videos of masked
“ICE” agents and/or “HSI” agents in civilian clothes and unmarked vehicles simply grabbing people off the street.

Also, a lot of these people don’t need to be arrested and detained. That is more a policy issue than an ICE issue, but it is where a lot of the resentment comes. If there is a basis to deport, then go through the required process. You don’t need people sitting in expensive jail cells while that process is unfolding.

Walz should temper some of his language and calling ICE “Trump’s modern day Gestapo scooping people off the streets” was unnecessarily incendiary. Most politicians should train themselves to automatically reconsider using comparisons to Nazis and terrorists in their public rhetoric.
And we’re back to “Pubs can do the craziest and/or most immoral things yet should get the benefit of the doubt while Dems should parse every word to avoid saying anything that might offend someone.” The double-standard here is the real life version of Pubs’ old “bigotry of low expectations”.

How about this…if you don’t want to be compared to fascists, quit behaving like fucking fascists.

That was my thought as well.

Trump has spent years now condemning Dems as evil, disgusting, baby-killing satansists who “abort” kids after birth. His constant use of violent Christian nationalist and authoritarian rhetoric over the last decade-plus is directly linked to an increase in political violence.

Let’s stop blaming the victims here.

So, if this admin and/or ICE is arresting and/or deporting people here legally, would you say they then were acting like the Gestapo? Or thugs?

If they were doing it on purpose and/or not making effort to fix their mistake, of course.

Were the left made to own and apologize for:

The UnitedHealthcare murder - heck some of the left keeps cheering him on

The New Orleans truck murderer

The Tesla firebombers

The Bolder anti Semite who burned Jews alive

The Israeli Embassy assassin

The Palm Springs car bomber

Gov Shapiro arson incident

I certainly don't remember 23+ page threads where everyone was condemning those acts of left wing/anti Semite violence.

And these are just the incidents in the last few months.

This guy looks like he was a right wing abortion nut but some of these facts are so unusual that I would like more information before making a final decision - that's all I've said. My bet is that he was a life long Democrat who, for whatever reason, was recently radicalized. Regardless, it was terrible incident.

If this doesn't slow down we may be heading towards a "Bloody Kansas" era in our country with tit- for- tat acts of gruesome violence against each political side.

Trump's response to a question as to whether he plans to call the governor of Minnesota...stay classy, Donald

“I’m not calling him. Why would I call him? I could call and say, ‘Hi, how you doing?’ Uh, the guy doesn’t have a clue. He’s a mess. I could be nice and call, but why waste time?” Trump said on his way back to Washington from a G7 summit in Canada.
