It's just destroyed the enjoyment of college basketball. Now the transfer portal is doing that to CFB

We are at a point where it makes little sense to waste time and money recruiting unproven high school players whether they are potential OAD or otherwise.

The coaching staff should spend its times scouting and evaluating JR/SR potential portal transfers and spend NIL money attracting those transfers who have produced in their Frosh/Soph years at the college level

Pretty much.

That seems like a pretty sound strategy. Mid-Majors can do the development and then be harvested for their best and brightest. I suppose there also might be frustrated "Majors" who would want to relocate as well.

No one and dones in the college football world for several reasons...I wonder to what degree those "student-athletes" must follow NCAA requirements on class work?
In college an advisor told me not to take a calculus class because it was "for athletes".

I tried to take at least one "slide" every semester as an undergrad. That was pretty possible in my days.

HealthEd 41
History 76-77 (US Wars by Leutze)
Soc 10
Poli Sci 41
Portuguese Fiction (I took 3 other semesters of Portuguese Language as well because it was the "Athlete Language" when I was in school. Remember Dudley Bradley and Buddy Curry in those classes)
Ed 41 (Unks)
Geology (yep...rocks for jocks -- sat with L.T. in that one)

OADs are a different animal.

I’m sure they are college students on paper.
Curious to know how many schools benefit from OADs championship wise. Seems like too much effort for me to look into it though.

I mean think of how many total went through Kentucky for one championship?

UK and dook got one each. Syracuse got one with Melo.

When I TA'd intro courses the O linemen sat up front; the skill guys in back. Guess who got the good grades. Doubt that has changed much.

Trying to build the majority of the roster via the transfer portal every season is tricky in both major sports. There are success stories of course, but there are also a lot of examples of those type of teams flopping because the combination of players just doesn’t have chemistry for whatever reason. That’s my biggest concern about the Belichick experiment.

I can only find 71 courses listed as "online" possibilities in the UNC Course Catalog: Search Courses

The Course Catalog includes all courses currently approved to be taught at UNC-Chapel Hill. Only a subset of courses that appear are offered each semester. To see a list of course offerings for a current or future term, please see the Class Schedule in ConnectCarolina.

There were only 6 courses listed as online that carried a course number below 200, an Anthro, a Biochem, Three English, and a Spanish course. An English course made up the entire 200-level offerings while there were 6 more possibilities at the 300-level. Remembering that only a "subset of courses that appear are offered each semester" I can't really see how athletes could be taking mostly online courses.

UNC has always had a Division of Continuing Education. 30-40 years ago I did a little work there. At that time course work was mailed to students-they returned it in the mail etc.. Even then some student Athletes on campus earned some credits this way. I forget exactly how "exams " worked?

Do you think that is still a "modality" for course delivery?

These are all I can think of since 2000

2024 UCONN - Castle
2018 Villanova- Omari Spellman
2017 UNC - Tony Bradley
2015 Duke - Okafor, Winslow, Jones
2012 Kentucky - Davis, MKG, Teague
2005 UNC - Marvin Williams
2003 Syracuse - Carmelo

I think there are more 2 and done players

I don’t really count the teams with a single OAD as OAD team.

Wow, how could I forget. So UNC has benefited from OADs more than anyone? 🤣

Yeah, big difference between building a team of OADs and adding 1 to a mostly complete roster
