I tried to take at least one "slide" every semester as an undergrad. That was pretty possible in my days.

HealthEd 41
History 76-77 (US Wars by Leutze)
Soc 10
Poli Sci 41
Portuguese Fiction (I took 3 other semesters of Portuguese Language as well because it was the "Athlete Language" when I was in school. Remember Dudley Bradley and Buddy Curry in those classes)
Ed 41 (Unks)
Geology (yep...rocks for jocks -- sat with L.T. in that one)
I took Health Ed 41, guns and boats( Leutze ), Poli Sci 41, and Ed 41 back in the day. I also took Drama 15, a physics course for non physics majors, Philosophy (logic) 21 , Psy 20 and 28 and English 24

Between heavy drug use, skipping classes, and slide courses I managed to graduate

These are all I can think of since 2000

2024 UCONN - Castle
2018 Villanova- Omari Spellman
2017 UNC - Tony Bradley
2015 Duke - Okafor, Winslow, Jones
2012 Kentucky - Davis, MKG, Teague
2005 UNC - Marvin Williams
2003 Syracuse - Carmelo

I think there are more 2 and done players
Ironic that we had the most championships with one and doners, without going all in on that system.

It is funny when you think about it that way

Duke with a strong chance for another this year unfortunately

And to a lesser degree, Cal and his Arkansas AAU squad

UNC has always had a Division of Continuing Education. 30-40 years ago I did a little work there. At that time course work was mailed to students-they returned it in the mail etc.. Even then some student Athletes on campus earned some credits this way. I forget exactly how "exams " worked?
Evening college had correspondence courses in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. Exams might have been proctored on campus.

When I was working on political campaigns, I took a few correspondence courses thru the Evening College……among the hardest classes I took. Extensive reading requirements and you had to stay on top of the syllabus or you’d find yourself scrambling.

8:00 am summer school glass was much easier. Show up for class…..take notes…..easy A.

Summer school '70s was my savior (no 8:AM for me). Besides easiet classes, summer in CH was always so much more laid back than during school terms back then. A couple years I'd just take off regulsr terms and do my itinerant thing then cone back for summer scool.

When I arrived at my 8th semester I had enough SS credits that I only needed 2 courses to graduate.

But one needed 12 credits to get the Athletic Pass and tix to basketball (we waited in line back in those days btw). IIRC we also got into baseball games free with that pass too and that was a pure Beer Fest in The Bosh.

Pertinent I believe…

If you recall, Coach Williams had quite a few swings and misses with recruiting.

I like your question, though. What has changed in the last 18 months? I'm not opposed to players being compensated financially, and others probably follow this closer than I do, but I would suggest that in the last 18 months, NIL went from being about name, image, and likeness to straight up pay-for-play, and Carolina may have been continuing to play it straight up when SEC schools and others were bending the rules beyond recognition. As I understand it, the rules will probably change again next year, and unless the wheels fall off, Coach Davis should get the opportunity to navigate through the changes. We seem to compare Coach Davis to a standard that never existed. In Coach Williams' last 4 years, his teams were a 1 seed, a 2 seed, an 8 seed, and missed the tourney. In those four years, Carolina won a total of 3 NCAA tournament games and were beaten by a lower seed in each tourney.

I get it. We're all frustrated by the slow starts, the close losses, the recruiting losses, etc, but when we take a step back and look at the big picture, I'd still rather be Carolina than Auburn, Alabama, or Arkansas. I'd rather have Coach Davis than Pearl, Oats, or Golden.

Curious to know how many schools benefit from OADs championship wise. Seems like too much effort for me to look into it though.

I mean think of how many total went through Kentucky for one championship?
There's always the example of Carmelo at Cuse.
