Because this really worries me.

If it passes and ICE is allowed to 'monitor' elections we are well and fully gone down the road to a fascist government. I hate feeling that way but that's the entire point of the bill.

I recently found out I was one of the voters that the supreme court candidate Griffin tried to disenfranchise last election. Out of nowhere I got a letter saying there was an issue with my voter registration

I have lived in the same house for 33 years.
I have paid a LOT of state and local taxes during that time.
I have voted in every election except maybe 2 small local deals during that time
I have never changed my registration or affiliation.
I have a passport
I have TSA pre check
I have global entry
Recently got the face recognition at the airport through TSA and have used several times
And got the new star ID drivers license last year.

But If griffin had got his way my vote would have been thrown out and I would not have known. I still don't know what the issue was but went down to the board of elections and it took them all of 5 seconds to hopefully fix. I did find out that this was the 'compromise' that the Democrats made with the GOP after that election. How many voters will not realize they need to do it and be locked out in the midterms?

That will be nothing compared to what voters will go through if this monstrosity passes. I am fine with ID being required but they specifically aren't going to allow a drivers license.

And it particularly disenfranchises women whose voter registration name doesn’t match their birth certificate. And if they’ve been married and divorced a couple times and don’t have all the paperwork for a complete “chain of custody” they’re fucked.

White supremacy in full daylight. It's funny, right?

Never forget, the supremacy comes for euro blood first, next and last.

I guess that's why we're here and actual history has been banned and buried.

Thx.

Normally I think this bill would have little chance of passing, even in a Republican Congress like this one, for various reasons. But with the midterms looking really bad for the GOP I do think there's a chance it will pass, as many GOP Congressmen and Senators see it as their only chance of getting reelected this fall. Cornyn in Texas has bluntly said as much (assuming he can win the primary), and so have some other GOP members of Congress. They're desperate, and so in their view desperate times call for desperate measures. Even if it does pass I think the federal courts will strike it down rather quickly, as it's clearly unconstitutional, but the GOP is currently in panic mode for the midterms and many likely see this bill as their only chance to hang on to their majority, at least in the House, and for some individual GOP Senators like Cornyn in competitive races to win the election.

The only way a minority party can stay in power is to suppress the vote. GQPers have known this for years.
