Nobel Peace Prize (Awarded to Maria Corina Machado)

First of all, I thought I was pretty clear in my post that nothing worth celebrating has happened *yet^ and that there is plenty that could happen before next year that would make the award obviously ridiculous. So we're not really fighting about anything substantive here.

Second of all, to quote your previous post: "The Nobel Peace Prize is a joke anyway." I don't know that I would call it a joke but it is largely ceremonial. The history of the award reveals entirely worthy honorees mixed in with silly honorees and downright embarrassing honorees. The sole reason Trump wants it is because Obama got it, and you already noted that Obama probably shouldn't have gotten it (I tend to agree). So who really gives a shit? If the world actually is a more peaceful place by next year (big if) and if Trump has backed off the crazy fascist shit over here (even bigger if) then give it to him and maybe he can just die a happy man. We can retroactively take it back in a few years when the Epstein stuff finally becomes fully public.
I might be OK with giving him the Nobel if he would dump Steven Miller and Russ Vought in the ocean, preferably near an electric battery and sharks.

Would have liked to have seen the White House congratulate her. No class. It would probably help him next year where he has a real shot at the award.

Ironically, Ms Machado dedicated the win to Trump, along with the people of her country, as she praised the president for support of her cause. Stroking Trump's ego is always good policy if she wants to get more US support. Trump did repost her dedication to him. No class.

Well, yeah, it's always a pretty safe bet that Trump will do the opposite of whatever the classy choice is. As with most aspects of his life, Trump expects respect and deference from everyone but offers it to no one.

In re: Right-wing outrage over St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago not winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025.
1. Nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 - Nobel Peace Prize
2. "The nomination deadline for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 was on 31 January. Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee may add further names to the list during their first meeting, which this year was held on 28 February."
3. Exactly what had St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago done prior to either January 31st or February 28th of this year to even warrant consideration for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize?

I find it amusing when this administration is faced with facts. They bully the national landscape to a point most pretend their reality is reality. When they deal with entities not beholden to them, actual reality intervenes. Then, they act indignant that the world will not play along with this charade.

He has no shot at the award ever. He has done nothing for the cause of peace and a fuckload for the cause of human suffering. Again, you don't get credit for sitting on your hands while a genocide rages, and then once the whole thing is about to go completely to hell, come in with a half-baked concept of a plan to get a temporary cease-fire.

A few questions about that famous "6AM phone call."

1. What if you miss the call? Do they call back, or leave a message?
"Hello, this is Kristian Berg Harpviken, I am Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, here in Oslo, and I am trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty. Just kidding, I am trying to reach you on behalf of the Norwegian Nobel Institute with an important message. Could you please call me back at your very earliest convenience at 1-800-NBL-PRIZ. Thank you."

Trump should invite her to the White House for a celebration of her receiving the award. They are allies.

He should. But we all know that (1) he won't, and (2) even if he did he would spend the whole time talking about how it was bullshit that he didn't win.

I mean, honestly, if I heard the first few seconds of that voicemail I would assume it was some sort of scam and delete it, lol.

'm assuming that, like with candidates for baseball HOF induction, they send out some general notice to some pool of candidates that they may be getting a call from the Nobel Committee and not to ignore it if so? But that's just an assumption, I have no knowledge at all about the process.

I would think so. I mean, I know that connected folks are connected, but the Nobel folks had to get her phone number in some manner and almost certainly had to let her know to be available in case they called her.

That is a real number, by the way. Starts with a special offer if you are over 50.

Maybe people over 50 get special offers for Nobel Prizes.
