This is what makes America great !
What nycfan just posted applies only to maximalist campaigns -- i.e. campaigns seeking regime change. It doesn't necessarily apply to reform campaigns.Someone on here posted an article or stat looking at the efficacy of protests. I think it said that when 3% of a population dislikes a policy enough to protest, it changes. Do I recall that correctly? Might No Kings be close to that number? Should Soros pony up more money?
Need a new Congress for that to happen. And the current Congress is doing everything possible to prevent that.I tend to agree. He's using powers given to the President, but he's using them in a way that other Presidents have not, so he appears to be acting like a king.
I hope Congress reels in the powers.
He is also using powers NOT given to the president (i.e., impoundment) or never before understood as having belonged to the president (i.e., firing any executive branch employee at any time for any reason, or no reason) and purporting to use emergency emergency powers with obviously pretextual justifications. Congress does indeed need to exercise its own constitutional powers, and reassert its constitutional authority (not gonna happen with the current Congress) but Congress can't "reel in" any of those things, at least not by itself.I tend to agree. Agree. He's also testing "potential" powers. He is also using powers NOT given to the president (i.e., impoundment) or never before understood as having belonged to the president (i.e., firing any executive branch employee at any time for any reason, or no reason) and purporting to use emergency emergency powers with obviously pretextual justifications. They will plant instigators into the crowd to start fights as an excuse to send in police/ NG.Whoopie doo. Full of sound and fury signifying nothing.
If he’s talking about a No Kings event, 100% of those will be 100% peaceful, no weapons of any kind other than perhaps a guitar with words in sharpie written across it: “this machine kills fascists” a la Woody Guthrie. That’s as close to “antifa” Abbot and Costello is going to find.
I really hope it doesn't happen, but I absolutely believe they will try, as they have nothing to lose and it would be foolish to dismiss it. Mrs Korg and I will be hypervigilant tomorrow, and we will be texting with relatives every half hour on the half hour until the event is over. If they don't hear from us, they try to call each one of us. If we don't answer or call back within 15 minutes, they are to presume that we have been detained and take appropriate action. They will plant instigators into the crowd to start fights as an excuse to send in police/ NG.
