The thing with MAGA is that they don't care about the real victory margin. If they won by one vote it would still be the greatest landslide of all time and liberals would have been utterly routed. As you noted Trump got less than 50% of the total vote and he beat Kamala by less than 1.5% of the popular vote, which makes it one of our closer popular-vote elections. Yet to listen to Trump and his minions and all of MAGA Nation you'd think they won 80% of the vote. They live in a fantasy world, which is why believing this crap is so easy for them - who needs facts which you can just make things up? After all, they've got Fox News and OAN and Newsmax to provide them with an alternate reality to their liking 24/7.

I’ve been bothered realizing how much of America struggles with numbers. And I mean really struggles. It’s bipartisan.

Even educated people on this board often make comments referring to half of the country as maga. It wasn’t even half of voters let alone half of all eligible voters. I don’t know why it isn’t called out more when someone says HALF OF AMERICA is maga. That’s approaching 170 million people including children.

If this is where we’re at with basic arithmetic now it’s going to be 49 million percent worse in 12 generations. (Trust me. The math works. Don’t think about it.)

Agreed on the overall state of education, but I do think what makes Trumpers different is that it's not that they simply struggle with math, it's that they don't care and they just want to lie and say that Trump won in a landslide, so they do. Even if they did understand that the voting results don't remotely justify calling his win a landslide, they'd still just say it anyway and convince themselves that it's true, because that's what they want to believe.

It's not just that Americans struggle with numbers, it's that MAGAs struggle with reality and have developed over time an elaborate system that allows them to create their own alternate reality where narrow victories are historic landslides, Democratic-voting large cities are crime-ridden hellholes that must be occupied by MAGA-controlled military and police forces, Trump is the greatest presidential peacemaker of all time, and on and on.

Futhermore, since 36% of eligible voters did not vote at all, Trump actually only got votes from 32% of eligible voters. Not even 1/3. 2/3 of voting eligible Americans did not vote for Trump.

First, almost everybody in Marion IS WHITE, and probably retired - because all of the younger folks able to work left Marion for greener pastures as soon as they could. Of course the crowd looked lily white and senior. That said. Take a closer look at the video and you’ll see plenty of folks who aren’t of retirement age…. So that part is total BS. And as far as no people of color… McDowell county is the whitest, most racist place on earth with a healthy and active KKK contingent. So of course the crowd is white… ain’t no black folk within 100 miles.

This is a social media problem. A big one. Someone posts a description or synopsis of pics and videos, and it’s often inaccurate. It’s designed to get a specific response from the viewer. Rupar and others on the left do this as well.

I’m not on social media (although being here I wonder if I can make that claim considering how much is social media posts). Using Rupar as an example he describes something trump says in the video he’s posted. I don’t want to fucking listen to trump, but I know what has been described might not actually be what is said/shown in the video.

Anyway, I fucking hate social media.
 
Some of the smartest people I know don’t do social media… they don’t even have a FB account (with FB being sort of milquetoast in the world of socials). They’re also some of the most informed (and accurately informed) people I know. They actually know how to read, discern and inwardly digest real information. And they have no problem keeping it to themselves - at least in terms of spouting and spewing on some sort of device.

I had to look up the demographics of Marion and McDowell County after reading the post you quoted.
  • I was shocked that Marion is only 68% white, 12% black, and 15% Latino; McDowell County is 85% white, 3.8% black, 6.6% Latino, and 3.6% mixed or other. I was shocked that the median age is only 38. I was expecting higher.
  • According to the 2020 Census, in Marion, for every 100 females there are 83 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79 males. That’s a really fucked up ratio.
  • I was also surprised that Marion’s population jumped 58% in the 2010 Census (2,900 people; McDowell County only gained 2,800; so, the rural part of the county lost population). Marion rose 3% in the 2000 one and dropped 1.5% in the 2020 one. It had jumped 29% in the 1990 Census. Anyone know why Marion gained so many people from 2000-2010?

Yeah, I was being hyperbolic. Marion is the exception in MACK-Dowell county (as long as we’re being accurate let’s make sure we’re pronouncing it correctly hahaha). Yes Marion proper has more brown folks than the rest of the county… but that’s how NC is in general right? The cities and metro areas have all of the diversity as opposed to the rural areas of the county. And Marion is no exception. I’m surprised to learn MACKDowell is only 85% white… I would have guessed 95%.

One thing Marion has done this century is to embrace the “Main Street USA” program and they finally (FINALLY) passed liquor laws. Marion was still “dry” before. That alone probably boosted their viability.

Yep. I remember W. in 2001 claiming a "mandate" from the American people after he lost the popular vote and "won" the 2000 election in Florida by 500(???) votes.
