It was mostly a joke but I don't like that with a sample size of six, three people would vote for Trump. Especially after going 5-0 for Biden in 2020.

It's just 2016 PTSD roaring it's ugly head.
What I don't get is how people that voted against Trump before can actually switch to him now AFTER all the shit he has done since the last term. I sometimes feel like we are being pranked by some sick higher power lol

In 2020 it was the reality of Trump vs the hope/promise of Biden/Harris.

In 2024 it's the reality of Trump vs the reality of Biden/Harris.

Different race.

The pattern of voting is weird... tied for president, republican win for governor, democratic win for congress??

I find it hard to believe that many people living in reality (not the right wing grievance machine) could be dissatisfied with the reality of Biden/Harris. Competent, stable government versus Trump's revolving door of grifters and crazies. Robust jobs growth. Low unemployment. High stock market. Best post-COVID economy in the world. Commercial construction boom. COVID-caused Inflation down basically at target. Near-consensus under economists that Kamala will be better for the economy moving forward than Trump. You can complain about the deficit, but Trump 1.0 was worse at growing the deficit and economists agree his policies will grow it more than Kamala's.

The only way to think Trump will be better is basically to think he's lying about all the stupid things he says he'll do. And if your best-case scenario is "my preferred candidate is lying about what he'll do" what does that say? Like, take away all the lies and what's actually left?

If you really believe this, you're out of touch.

Make no mistake, Trump is an awful candidate and will likely lose. But if he wins, it'll be because the statement you made that I quoted above is not true at all for everyday middle-class Americans. When many people compare the world right now to the world 4 years ago, they feel the pain of inflation and they have a fear of the world seemingly being on the brink of World War III.

I do actually understand it. There are so many Americans out there who are scraping by. They are really feeling the effects of a $6 box of Cheerios and $3/gal gas. They may not own homes and have no hope to do so. I have three younger siblings in their 30s and 40s who will never, ever be able to afford a house in the same city where we were raised. Many people do not invest in the stock market and it holds no meaning for them. And people also see their life in contrast to the wealthy who live among us, both in reality and online. We are a capitalist, consumer-driven society and when people can't buy things that are marketed to them, they feel disaffected. I am not saying that these Americans SHOULD vote for Trump, but I can say that in their eyes, the economy is not working for them. These voters also may not understand that our economy is actually doing quite well in comparison to other countries, because we don't really seem to pay attention to the rest of the world. And then there is the old trope that Republicans "do better with the economy" -- proven to be false, but confirmation bias is hard to overcome.

TLDR: It's the PERCEPTION of the economy that matters

Has your salary not kept up with inflation? And if not, who controls your salary?

We were in a pandemic 4 years ago at this time. It was way worse. We can go places now, we aren't getting sick by the millions, its better today than 4 years ago by a hundred times.

Four years ago, 17 million fewer people were employed
