I completely understand that many people are unable to divorce their personal economic circumstances from the economy as a whole. By and large people's perceptions of the economy are driven by their personal experience, which of course is foolish because people's personal economic experiences are driven way more by their individual circumstances rather than anything the government does. I'm not saying people aren't feeling real financial strain, but I do expect people to be smart enough to exercise a modicum of critical thinking to understand why that is. When you look around the world and see lower inflation than almost anywhere else, now brought under control better than almost anywhere else, with wages growing better than almost anywhere else, you understand pretty easily that it's not the current administration that is the cause of anyone's personal financial strain, and in fact it would pretty obviously be worse if a Trump admin was in charge. Unless you think that increasing the tax burden on poor and middle-class families is a good thing. If you really believe this, you're out of touch.
Make no mistake, Trump is an awful candidate and will likely lose. But if he wins, it'll be because the statement you made that I quoted above is not true at all for everyday middle-class Americans. When many people compare the world right now to the world 4 years ago, they feel the pain of inflation and they have a fear of the world seemingly being on the brink of World War III.
Again, there is no real way to objectively dispute that the Biden admin has done as good or better a job in the post-COVID recovery as any other government on the planet. And there is near-unanimous consensus among economists that most Americans (other than the super rich) will be worse off under Trump, and that Trump will be worse for the economy as a whole. I understand why low-information voters either don't comprehend that or can't be bothered to learn it. But you're not a low-information voter. What's your excuse? Do you actually dispute the truth of anything I said in that post, or are you just acknowledging that people's subjective anxiety about their own financial situation (largely unrelated to any government policy) is a worthy reason to vote for Trump even if it's irrational?
