The US president has listed the stopping of condoms to Gaza as an accomplishment. But is he thinking of the wrong Gaza?

“We identified and stopped $50m being sent to Gaza to buy condoms for Hamas,” Trump said on Wednesday. “They used them as a method of making bombs. How about that?”
Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, made a similar claim on Tuesday during her debut news briefing. She stated that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) “found that there was about to be 50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza.”

She called the alleged aid “a preposterous waste of taxpayer money”.

Jesse Watters, host of a conservative-leaning talk show on Fox News, said Hamas was using the nonexistent US shipments to make “condom bombs”, floating explosives-laden balloons into Israel. Did he share any evidence to back up that bomb-astic claim? No.

But it is interesting to note that according to the HHS grants database, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation in Mozambique has received more than $83m in funding since 2021.

The money was assigned to reproductive health projects in two of the country’s provinces: Inhambane and Gaza.

This funding is expected to continue until September 2026, according to the grant details.

It is unclear whether Mozambique has lost funding because of any confusion over its Gaza province.

I know they’re limited here, but sending a firm letter isn’t going to stop this. Democratic senators and congresspeople have to speak up and stand up on the illegality of Trump’s actions. They can’t just sit and wait for Trump and co to burn it all down and hope they can rebuild amidst the ashes.

Need to fight all of this in the courts. And need to impeach Trump and anyone who comes behind him that wants to do the same things. There is no way all of this is legal and most likely it's unconstitutional.

Yes, fight it in the courts. But that can’t be the only thing that happens. Democrats need to be actively showing they are fighting and constructing a political counter narrative.

Yes, every single day. They need to bombard the media and Trump and tell the public this is wrong and it is going to destroy this country and people's lives.
 


And so now payments will be cut off down the line by Musk at Treasury until a different claim is made and so on …

This orientation will put FAR more people in the ground, over 5-50 years, than helps “people on the ground”. This is of course if the resources of the gutted agencies were to actually go to “people on the ground”, but we all know they won’t, except in performative propaganda gestures.
