OMB freezes all disbursements / USAID shutdown / GOP begs for exceptions for their states

from CNN
USAID was established in 1961 under President John F. Kennedy’s administration and is the US government’s humanitarian arm. It dispenses billions of dollars annually across the world in an effort to alleviate poverty, treat diseases, and respond to famines and natural disasters. It also promotes democracy building and development by supporting non-government organizations, independent media and social initiatives.

USAID is a key soft power tool of the US to foster relations with communities around the world, officials say, noting that US national security is approached with the “three D” pillars: defense, diplomacy and development, led, respectively, by the Defense Department, State Department and USAID.

So, I'm still a bit confused as to why Trump's coterie of Jaffars went after USAID so quickly out of the gate. Is it just because of the money, or is there some other ideological reason in addition?

I assume NIH grants will be subject to a similar scheme. There are a lot of studies focused on women’s health (or minority health) that will be flagged. Most of these won’t have anything to do with DEI, but it could be used as a back door to slash a tens of millions in expenditures.

Because it's hard for Joe in Tuscaloosa to understand how it could possibly be in America's interest to be sending billions of dollars to Somalia and Mozambique. It's hard to imagine an agency that touches on more of the MAGA tropes -- (a) spending of taxpayer dollars (b) overseas (c) for mostly black and brown people (d) to live healthier and safer lives. MAGAs generally hate every one of those things.

It’s aid to foreigners which pleases the base and does not hurt the base (directly) and it’s a test run for how to destroy a government agency without congressional approval.

But it could hurt them directly if they're a Trumper and lose their job because they work on something that is funded by USAID. I hope none of those people are dumb enough to vote for Trump, but you know there are some.

Did the first two impeachments not teach u anything? No one cares but you bunch of drama queens. No one cares about a bunch of time and money wasting investigations either. He is untouchable so deal with it. Your side enabled this orange monster so deal with it and stop whining like babies.
How would you propose to deal with it?

If any of the claims about USAID are true, it needs to be closely reviewed. For example, I don’t want to give another cent to Serbia to promote DEI….if that’s actually happening.

Here are only a few examples of the WASTE and ABUSE:

Again, if these things are true then I would agree that common sense is apparently not existent or severely lacking, at the very least

This is the kind of nonsense that will hurt Democrats and help Republicans.

Why start with a premise of accepting what Trump's propaganda officer cherry-picked out of all USAID grants? Why not seek out the actual information? And most of the examples she picked were such small amounts of money in the grand scheme of things that picking on them is laughable.
