Donald Trump has ordered that swathes of America’s forests be felled for timber, evading rules to protect endangered species while doing so and raising the prospect of chainsaws razing some of the most ecologically important trees in the US.

The president, in an executive order, has demanded an expansion in tree cutting across 280m acres (113m hectares) of national forests and other public lands, claiming that “heavy-handed federal policies” have made America reliant on foreign imports of timber.


“It is vital that we reverse these policies and increase domestic timber production to protect our national and economic security,” the order adds.

Trump has instructed the US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management to increase logging targets and for officials to circumvent the US’s Endangered Species Act by using unspecified emergency powers to ignore protections placed upon vulnerable creatures’ habitats.

I think the trade war was the justification for the clear cutting order. The lumber harvesting was always going to happen; the Canadian lumber duty was the excuse they came up with why they have to start cutting down our forests.

First, I didn’t say I hated them. I asked why I shouldn’t (a question you unsurprisingly sidestepped).
Yes, they are telling lies to enrich themselves in ways that hurt average Americans.

I never watched a minute of Jake Tapper, so maybe give me an example of him telling lies to enrich himself that hurt my family and I’ll give it some thought.
Same with KJP. I had a pretty low opinion of her as press secretary. Never thought very much of Tapper, either.

TBH, I generally wouldn't respond to these sorts of demands to defend something wrapped in these sorts of personal insults. To each his own and all, but might help if you dial it back from a gazillion watt insults if you want engagement.
