Trump Has a Funny Way of Protecting Women’s Sports

College programs are about to start paying athletes big money. Under new federal policy, women will see very little of it.

“…The Department of Education announced recently that Title IX, the federal law that requires colleges to provide equal per-player funding for men’s and women’s sports, does not apply to name, image, and likeness payments paid directly to athletes from colleges and universities.

That policy, which reverses a position adopted by the Biden administration, will cut collegiate women athletes off from a huge new source of funding set to come into play this year: Next month, a federal judge is expected to approve a $2.8 billion class-action settlement that, after years of litigation, will finally allow athletes to be receive name, image, and likeness payments from their school rather than through outside NIL collectives, the college-sports version of a super PAC.

The schools that choose to opt in to the settlement are expected to have a salary cap of up to $20.5 million each to distribute to players.

Under the guidance released during the final days of the Biden administration, they would have had to distribute that money between male and female athletes in proportion to their participation rates. Now, under Trump, that money is all but guaranteed to flow overwhelmingly to male athletes, mostly football and basketball players.

For example, the University of Georgia plans to give 75 percent of its revenue-sharing to the football team, 15 percent to men’s basketball, 5 percent to women’s basketball, and the remaining 5 percent to all other sports. Other big-time sports schools are expected to follow a similar formula. …”

BlackRock Strikes $23 Billion Deal for Ports on Both Sides of Panama Canal

A consortium of investors is buying a majority stake in the ports from CK Hutchison

“… The deal would bring the key ports under American corporate ownership, from Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison. The Panama Canal is controlled by Panama, but foreign-owned ports on either side have been flagged as a threat by the Trump administration.

Trump Administration Pushes to Slash I.R.S. Work Force in Half

Losing half of its employees would severely strap the I.R.S., meaning Americans may have to wait longer to receive tax refunds.

"The Internal Revenue Service is preparing to shed as much as 50 percent of its staff, according to four people familiar with the matter, a significant cut that could jeopardize the agency’s ability to complete its basic mission of collecting taxes.

The I.R.S. started the Trump administration with roughly 100,000 employees. It has already laid off more than 7,000 people who had recently joined the agency and had fewer job protections, and thousands more have taken Elon Musk’s offer to resign. Those cuts, as well as normal attrition, are expected to count toward the Trump administration’s goal of halving the number of people who work at the I.R.S., two of the people said.

... Leadership of the I.R.S. has been in turmoil, with two leaders stepping down under Mr. Trump. The current acting commissioner, Melanie Krause, put the chief human resources officer at the I.R.S. on administrative leave this week, according to two people familiar with the matter."

Well at least he wasn't dumb enough to schedule it at the same time as the UNC basketball game.

This is the first state of the union I've missed since trump was last president. I just cannot watch him lie and lie and lie. Plus, I basically hate the way he talks, his voice, his projections, his mannerisms, basically everything about the orange turd cult leader.

You guys let me know if he actually says something important.

Anyone who isn’t already tonguing Trump’s taint (see: ZZLP’s resident Trumper gooch guzzlers) who watches the joint address tonight is certifiable.
Kind of disrespectful to NYC who simply asked not to post stuff like this. You can pretty much get away with anything short of Shannon level stuff but she only had 1 request. Do better.

Truth be told, I kind of agree with you about his mannerisms and voice and his hyperbole. But, I’m hoping the zzzl watches because the best comments of the year come out on debate nights and sotu nights. And I mean that as a compliment to the ZZL. It brings it’s A game.

I'm in the hospital I doubt I have the channel available.

Plus, I don't want to upset my daughter when he starts his rant about LBGTQ people, my daughter is already worried that they are trying to negate her marriage.
