Pro Rasslin

Can you explain to me why, at this late hour, you are still a fan? I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just curious. And, I will go ahead and put my biases on the table: I have never ever willingly watched a pro rasslin event and I have thought it was stupid since I was a little kid.

BUT, let me try to put that aside for now. Part of the issue for me was last century that it was always presented by its fans as a sport, as if it was real (whether they believed that or not). Nowadays, wrestling has decided that it's OK to be fake in public. It's OK for the various characters to be sort of winking at the camera as they flex and strut. It's OK that we understand the wrestlers-turned-actors didn't actually change careers. I'm on board with all of that.

So my question is: why isn't wrestling hopeless stale? You've been on these boards as long as I have (though I've probably had more user names). That makes you an adult now, and though maybe not a senior citizen, you're at least middle-aged. You've been following wrestling for three decades, I'm guessing. Isn't it boring by now? As much as they try to make it unpredictable, there's just no way to do that after all this time. I mean, punk bands are lucky if they can remain punk for more than three albums. Metal bands, for the most part, get five. It's really hard to stay fresh.

So is following wrestling in 2024 the same thing as going to a Metallica concert in 2024? And if your answer is "yep, and I like it," that's fine. I'm just trying to understand why. And if you do go to Metallica concerts, maybe you can explain that to me as well. It is similarly mystifying.
I don't care for wrestling, never have.
But, it's entertainment.
And entertainment is very subjective.
I tell my kids if everyone agreed with everything I like, Country music would not exist, and the world would probably not be as fascinating as it is.

I’m more interested on why the OP needs three (at least) usernames when we all know it’s the same person.
Also, who was superiffic on IC before superiffic? I don’t recall anyone else like him.

Wrestlers change gimmicks all the time.

Feel like Raw is getting repetitive with the Judgement Day vs Priest and Ripley, Punk and McIntyre, and the Wyatt Sicks vs Gable and his group. Also, don't really care about any of the women who are fighting for the women's tag titles.

Haven't posted on here in a while. Thought Bad Blood was good the other night. The Hell in a Cell match and Jimmy Uso and The Rock returning was great. Also saw that after the show Kevin Owen's attacked Cody Rhodes in the parking lot. Going to be interesting what they do with The Rock and Bloodline story now.

Raw is going back to 2 hours for the rest of the year. I always thought 3 hours was too long. Always ends up having filler and some talent I don't care seeing to fill up the whole 3 hours. Not sure if it will stay 3 hours when it's on Netflix.

So now what's going to be next for Punk and McIntyre? Should be a good match tonight with Gunther and Zayn for the world title. Kind of like the Crown Jewel title they are going to do with the men's and women's world champs from Raw and Smackdown going against each other. Too bad it's only happening because they are coddling to the Suadis.

Raw is moving to Netflix on Jan 6. Going to a big change for sure. They have a stacked card for the first show. Rollins vs Punk, Reigns vs Solo and Ripley vs Morgan. Cena is supposed to be there to kickoff his farewell tour, and I am sure they will have some surprises. They are also going back to 3 hours, and Smackdown is going to be 3 hours starting in Jan, too. Not sure how I feel about that. I think I prefer the 2 hour shows with less filler. There is already talent on the 2 hour shows that I care nothing about seeing.

Any pro wrestling fans here? Thought we could talk all things WWE, AEW, TNA, etc.

Summerslam is tonight and has a great card.

WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa
World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. GUNTHER
Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax
Women’s World Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley
United States Championship: Logan Paul (c) vs. LA Knight
Intercontinental Championship: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker
CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre (w/ special guest referee Seth Rollins)

The main event of Cody and Solo is an anything goes match, too. And this is after the Bloodline won the WWE tag titles last night. The big question is will Roman Reigns come back tonight?
What number user name is this for you over here?

Have you watched Wrestlers on Netflix?

It's funny how Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and Drew McIntyre are the Heels, but everything they have said about CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, and Sami Zayne is right.

I never watched wrestling when I was younger, although I remember my grandpa had it on tv sometimes when I went to my grandparents’ house after school in middle school. WCW I think.

I had some friends who were really into it in college and got schedule into watching the WWF as it was still known then. Went to some shows, including a few Pay Per Views, most notably the last one of 1999 which was at the Greensboro Coliseum. (I went to UNCG.)

Everyone enjoyed Stone Cold and the Rock at the time, but I also really liked Mick Foley (whichever incarnation), Triple H, and Kurt Angle.

To me it was the closest thing you could watch to comic books (I was an avid reader of all the X-Men books in particular), with good versus evil and all the action and drama. None of us pretended any of it was real outside of the hard work they had to go through to be big-time professional wrestlers, but it was a lot of fun.

Every now and then I’ll glance at it if I see it’s on, but I don’t have the time or the energy to allow myself to get sucked back into all that. Running a business while having four kids and lots of other stuff I’d really like to do takes up too much of my time, but I really did enjoy wrestling back in the mid to late 90’s.

Wrestling is daytime dramas for men. 😁

I wonder what CFs opinion is, he really likes wrestling and Lost. 😁
