Louisiana to end mass vaccine promotion, state's top health official says

The Louisiana Department of Health “will no longer promote mass vaccination.” That's according to a Thursday memo written by the state’s top health official and obtained by The Associated Press.

A department spokesperson confirmed Louisiana Surgeon General Ralph Abraham had ordered his staff to stop engaging in media campaigns and community health fairs to encourage vaccinations, even as the state has experienced a surge in influenza.

Abraham’s announcement occurred the same day vaccine skepticRobert F. Kennedy Jr. was sworn in by the U.S. Senate to serve as President Donald Trump’s health secretary.

In a separate letter posted on the department’s website, Louisiana’s surgeon general decried “blanket government mandates” for vaccines and criticized the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 vaccination push. Individuals should make their own decisions about vaccinations, Abraham said.

“Government should admit the limitations of its role in people’s lives and pull back its tentacles from the practice of medicine,” said Abraham, a Republican.

The department will still “stock and provide vaccines,” according to Abraham’s memo. …”

Correct, see additional link. They will still require them but not recommend, promote or require them.

What component of this “project” does “end vaccines” serve?

I’m inclined to think at 30,000ft or 3”, so I often miss explanations like “sometimes, smart people act real dumb and/or hateful”, particularly when the evidence is so blatantly counter to the decisions made. I’m looking at this wave of anti-science and can’t help but to think it’s a component of an intentional culling. I mean, in less than a month, this administration has actualized and given license to decisions that will likely result in millions of avoidable future deaths and disabilities.

None of this seems all that radical to me. I'd be disappointed if HHS wasn't already doing most of this. Why wouldn't we want to monitor and assess the efficacy and potential long-term side effects of drugs and food additives?

If they had left some reputable people in charge of doing that who had a sense of priorities, I'd not have much of a problem. Firing them and leaving it to crackpots and dingbats don't do so much for me.

Folks can get the vaccine but the state just won’t promote it, which I think is not a big deal. I get the flu shot every year as does my wife and kids. I’m not sure Iver ever looked at an ad for it with anything other than a “that’s kind of dumb” stance.
