“… Tazewell Circuit Court Judge Jack Hurley Jr. struck down the Virginia legislature’s actions on three grounds, including finding that lawmakers failed to follow their own rules for adding the redistricting amendment to a special session.

His order also said Democrats failed to approve the amendment before the public began voting in last year’s general election and failed to publish the amendment three months before the election, as required by law. As a result, he said, the amendment was invalid and void.…”

A 10-1 Dem map for VA is, on its face, ridiculous. It may be the most egregious map in the US unless Maryland is allowed to completely eliminate R representation in the State.

All you are doing is sewing resentment in the state by basically eliminating R/conservative representation when there are LOTS of conservative voters who live in VA. This does not foster a healthy democracy.

Congrats on your 4 new seats.

Of all the ridiculous things that have happened in US politics in the last 10 years, this one isn’t even in the same zip code as the top 100.

It is ridiculous. So is the 11-3 Republican North Carolina map.

So is the Texas map. So is the California map.

I think it is ridiculous that the Supreme Court has said that this kind of gerrymandering is constitutional

I think it is ridiculous that the only party that has tried to ban gerrymandering is the Democrats.

It is no more ridiculous than the NC maps which is to say that both are fucking ludicrous and assaults on Democracy. Unfortunately, when Republicans pursue what they have done in places like NC, Dems will respond in places like Virginia.

Something tells me that you didnt feel the NC maps were a problem though.

Oh? Really?

REALLY?

Like what the GQP has done in North Carolina for two f***ing decades here, gerrymandering half the damn state to have their voices silenced?

You want resentment? COME TALK TO ME, BUDDYRO!

I live in North Carolina so save your outrage loser.

Why won’t either side put forward a clean (not one loaded with partisan provisions) bill which outlaws gerrymandering that establishes independent state commissions to draw the Congressional lines. It should provide that the number of Congressional representatives must correspond approximately to the average % of the vote each party received in the last three House election.

You might get some bipartisan support. What’s occurring this cycle is getting out of hand.

Needs to be nonpartisan. Independents and other parties deserve a voice.

Some people try. They tend to only represent the party in favor of democracy and anti monarchy so it is indeed not bipartisan.

Your side controls the legislature.
