Hey numbnut.

The Democrats benefitted by getting Swalwell out of the race. He was the leading polling Democrat and he was still in third place in the polling behind two Republicans because the Democratic vote was being split so many different ways. For months, the Democrats have been pushing people to drop out of the race.

Now that Swalwell is out, it virtually assures that Steyer or Porter will finish in the top 2 in the jungle primary, which means that California will elect a Democratic governor in November.

The last people that wanted to see Swalwell drop out of the race were California Republicans. So please drop the Democrats are the party of goodness and light crap. This was 100% pushed by the Steyer and Porter campaigns.

both things are true here.

dems benefit by swalwell dropping out of this race AND dems hold their members to much higher ethical standards than pubs.

Yes, that is 100% true.

It is just that Swalwell should not be the poster child for that point. We have Franken, Weiner, Menendez, Cuomo, Spitzer, half of Illinois governors, etc., etc. who have quit/lost because of their scandals.

On the Republican side, there is George Santos and ? Maybe Duncan Hunter way back in the day (and his well travelled bunny).

You're trying to give Dems credit when none is due. This is obviously a hit job by his own party to narrow the field for the California Governor's race since, at this point, it appears two Republicans are going to be the top two finishers in the jungle primary. He's an easy make since everyone in DC and California has known what a complete dirt bag he is. When he was useful to the Dems as a hatchet man Pelosi et al put up with him. When it was convenient to dump on him, they did.

And even when the Dems "condemned" Swalwell notice they only demanded that he quit the Governor's race NOT the US Congress. Only after being shamed by the media, did some Dems call for his resignation from Congress.

You're so right. We Dems are awful, awful people and so hypocritical. We lost our hero in Swalwell. He was my favorite. We'll miss him so! 😭

Tell you what, just like the Hawaii/Alaska agreement, why don't we go halfsies on Congress. Let's pass a joint resolution to kick out both Swalwell and Gonzalez. Deal? I'm sure Democrats would be virtually unanimous in passing that resolution.

If Pubs had done the right thing once in the last decade for one of their own cases of sexual misconduct, I might actually put some thought into what you have to say on the topic... Dems have consistently done the right thing, whether it hurt them or not. So the fact that Dems may benefit from doing the right thing rings hollow as a criticism in this case.

I think the shock from Cesar Chavez has an effect here. First, the importance of not turning a blind eye. Second, that we can successfully distinguish a man and his legacy. There was no pushback from Chavez supporters. All at once, everyone renamed Chavez-related objects or institutions, and yet they renamed them to honor the causes Chavez championed. In other words, no dissension, no fighting.

I think the Dems also learned from the Biden fiasco after the debate. Which explains the Chavez and Swalwell responses.

OK, maybe 1%.

The rest was a realpolitk play. The other Dems worked the story, got reporters to publish it, which gave the establishment the leverage it needed to push him out of the race. There is basically no chance this story ever sees the light of day if Swalwell hadn't decided to run for governor.

Even if that is true, it doesn't mean that morals had nothing to do with it. What you are saying is that Swalwell's rivals schemed to publish a story that would force him out of the race. Fine. But the only reason that would work is that Dems demand that our candidates not be sexually violent.

If the Dems ignored it (as we know any Pub would), they'd be evil. If they demanded Swalwell drop out, they're still evil. Did I catch that right?
