So let's say that this alleged sexual assault occurred this past November after Swalwell announced his run for Governor. Are you suggesting that the alleged victim calculated that the best time to wait and report this would be several weeks before the primary in order to get "maximum impact" ?

What I'm saying is that in our society, there is still an immense amount of shame that is dumped on women who are sexually abused, such as, "Why did you go out and get drunk with your boss?" Getting drunk with one's boss does NOT entitle him to rape you. In situations like this, getting drunk with one's boss and the boss taking sexual advantage of the drunken employee is bad, but it also makes the employee look bad to, i.e., "What did you think was going to happen after you slammed home that last Harvey Wallbanger?" If a woman is going to be criticized for getting drunk with her boss and being raped while she was drunk, then I have absolutely no problem with her waiting until the moment when she can inflict the maximum pain on said boss. These women destroyed his shot at running for governor without being grilled in endless depositions that dissect every sexual encounter they have ever had in their entire lives.

I land in a very different place with Swalwell. He always seemed preening and careless to me. He lacks the intellectual heft and tact of Raskin and Schiff. Yet, he was on MSNBC ALL OF THE TIME. This news, if true, wouldn't surprise me. To me, he always gave off a vibe of a horndog in disguise. Even a couple of weeks ago, I think my vote would have gone to Porter (even though she seemingly has had issues with tact from time to time during this campaign).

Katie and Tom are ecstatic. But the GOP is not. They had a pretty good shot of finishing 1-2 in the jungle primary and assuring themselves the governorship. If Swalwell drops out (or even if he doesn’t at this point) this likely guarantees a Democrat in the top 2, which means an automatic Democratic win in November.

Rather ironic for MAGAs to be talking trash about Democrats covering things up when Democrats (including the party leadership) are at least quickly turning against Swalwell now that the accusations are out. Not only have Republicans not turned against Trump despite far more accusations of sexual assault, Defense Secretary Hegseth also has multiple credible accusations of sexual assault and yet Republicans have done nothing. So has Brett Kavanaugh and he's on the Supreme Court. So did Matt Gaetz, who was nominated by Trump as Attorney General before withdrawing (Senate Republicans never had to vote on him). And that's just for starters.

The MAGA movement is shot through with politicians, podcasters, religious leaders, and others who have been accused of sexual harassment, assault, rape, and pedophilia, and yet in most cases Republicans have either looked the other way and left them in office, or even promoted them, like Hegseth. They simply don't care about such accusations, even after they've become public knowledge. And while some male Democratic leaders have also been accused of such behavior, in general Democrats over the past couple of decades have been much quicker to turn against those who are accused and to drive them from office, or at least attempt to. It's painfully obvious which party takes accusations of sexual harassment, assault, and rape seriously and which party doesn't (or just doesn't care).

That's an interesting point that I had not considered. Thank you for pointing it out. The propensity that Democrats have for shooting themselves in the foot never ceases to disappoint me no matter how many times it happens.

She should not have to justify going out with her boss and getting drunk. No one should criticize her for doing so or say it was her fault for being raped. ABSOLUTELY NOT !

Whether she filed her complaint before or now, I'm afraid she will be grilled in depositions but hopefully the depositions will focus on the current accusations and not delve into her past sexual encounters.

I don't know long she remained a staffer after the alleged sexual assault. I would hope her resignation occurred within days, but if her goal was to wait in order to create inflict maximum pain by bringing this to public attention then I hope she realizes that the media will dig into every aspect of her life since birth.
