Here's an idea: next time you get sick, or injured, or have cancer....just stay home! Don't go see those greedy, good-for-nothing doctors who are only trying to squeeze a few more dollars out of you! You show those evil bastards who spent 4 years of medical school, 4-6 years of residency, and oftentimes 2-4 years of fellowship learning medicine all so that they could stick it to your broke ass one day! You'll show them!

Regarding Trump’s Qatari jet, I’ll be shocked if the cost for retrofitting the 747-8 is less than $2 billion (we’ll never know how much it costs).

It’ll also likely not be done until the new Air Force Ones are complete.

If the Qatari jet does come in under $2 billion and is done before 2028, short-cuts have been taken and the jet is likely a security nightmare.

So what is the thinking here? I mean, Republicans get cancer, too. It’s not like this is your typical “own the libs” situation. Why cancel mRNA research funding?
This is brought to you by the same folks who believe vaccines cause autism. So there is no thinking here, just the feelings of fear and ignorance.

I'm curious as to what kind of research is being done, related to mRNA vaccines? The covid vaccine, specifically the mrna versions, were developed in a weekend and were effective. Where is the money being specifically used for? Surely it's not all for H5N1 vaccine?

The projects that are being axed were funded by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), a Department of Health and Human Services program that works with the pharmaceutical industry to develop vaccines and other countermeasures for public health emergencies.

“This isn’t just about vaccines,” Rick Bright, who directed BARDA from 2016 to 2020, said in a text message. “It’s about whether we’ll be ready when the next crisis hits. Cutting mRNA development now puts every American at greater risk.”
................
Kennedy said Tuesday that the terminated contracts were worth nearly $500 million. Among them is an award to the University of Texas Medical Branch and the biotechnology company Moderna to develop an mRNA-based vaccine for H5N1, the strain of bird flu that has infected dozens of people in the United States.

I found this in less than half the time it took you to type out those questions.

In summary, mRNA vaccines offer exciting possibilities for the future of infectious diseases and cancers. Their flexibility, adaptability, and rapid production capabilities position them as valuable tools in disease prevention and therapeutic interventions. Further research is needed to explore their full potential, address challenges, and optimize their use in different disease contexts. Moving forward, it is recommended that future research focuses on improving vaccine design, delivery systems, and manufacturing processes. Understanding the long-term safety and durability of immune responses generated by mRNA vaccines is essential. Additionally, exploring the combination of mRNA vaccines with other immunotherapeutic approaches may further enhance their efficacy. Continued research and collaboration in mRNA vaccines will pave the way for innovative disease prevention and treatment solutions.

Trump is just going to keep it after taxpayers pay for the upgrades.

No you’re not. If you were you would look into it rather than asking bad faith questions on a message board.

I’m guessing it’s akin to the anti-GMO movement, but with far less of a rational basis of concern.

There's a reason I said "specifically". That all sounds like an open-ended money pit for at least some things that aren't even an issue, given that multiple mRNA vaccines were developed, manufactured, distributed and successfully delivered into humans.

Half a billion dollars seems a "tad" excessive.

Zero chance you actually believe what you're typing here. And with that, count me out of this conversation.

because RFK doesn't trust it and he has carte blanche to impose his batshit crazy on everyone else.
And because plutocrats like RFK, Jr. and Trump and others don't give a crap about the welfare of their MAGA base, and never have. All they want is their votes, and they've learned over the decades that all their base really cares about is winning the culture wars and owning the libs, so they've perfected the art of throwing culture war red meat to their base while gutting the social safety net and other things like decent medical care and research that their base often desperately needs just to survive. As for themselves they can afford the best medical care anywhere in the world, and that includes traveling to other countries where such research is going to continue and they can take advantage of whatever they discover. Their base can suffer, they just want their votes.

I have great hope for a future where mRNA therapies are used to treat cancer. Think about a world where you're diagnosed with cancer, the dna of the cancer is extracted, AI tech is used to develop antibodies for your specific cancer, which are then administered using mRNA vaccines.

JFKjr is pushing that dream out of my lifetime, or in to the hands of another country.
