Cassidy closed the hearing with a plea to the new ACIP panel to not change the longstanding recommendation that all infants get vaccinated for Hepatitis B, citing his own credentials as a hepatologist who practiced for decades and saw people die from Hep B infections.

In a scrum with reporters outside the hearing room, Cassidy said bluntly that if ACIP later this week rescinds its recommendation for universal Hep B vaccination of newborns, the American people should not trust it.

“We have decreased from 20,000 kids a year getting Hepatitis B to like 20 a year. That’s an exponential decline,” he said. “And by the way, it’s not a mandate. It’s just something that the mother can have should she wish.”
 
^one point generally not being covered is if ACIp rescinds the recommendation, I believe federal funding gets pulled for people who can't afford the vaccines, also opens the door to insurance companies dumping the coverage, but it would be pretty fucking stupid to do so from an insurance payout standpoint as a vaccine is a lot cheaper than a treating Hep A based liver damage in children.

That’s not how they work though, otherwise they’d pay for insulin or inhalers full cost. Also Cassidy can go fuck himself, he’s a doctor, he knew what was coming. Truly can’t understand a physician voting for Trump (outside of awful surgeons)

Agreed that Oklahoma should be ashamed, but this is the state that also elected that brilliant promoter of critical thinking and high quality public education, Ryan Walters, as Superintendent of Public Schools. I believe it is also the only state in which every single county voted for Trump last year. In that sense Mullin perfectly symbolizes that state, and that's not a compliment.

For at least the next 3.5 years, Americans will be required to live in two different worlds. One will take vaccine recommendations from the experts. The other will take vaccine recommendations from Trump and RFK's CDC.

I've had the long term RSV and just had the long term pneumonia vaccine. I also got the flu vaccine and my doctor sent a prescription for the Covid shot to my pharmacy. Guess which side I'm on.
 
The committee today recommended that the combination MMRV vaccine not be given until 4 years of age due to the risk of febrile seizures when the MMRV dose is given as the first varicella dose.

Notably they are not recommending changing the actual schedule of vaccination.

The vote on pushing back the hepatitis B vaccine was deferred to tomorrow.

But they also required, by 8-1 vote, that Vaccines for Children provide the MMRV shot.

Because half the committee was appointed this week and they had no idea what they were doing. One member abstained on several votes because they were too confused. It does not appear that the committee understood what it was voting for.
 
Just as an added point of info, we typically don’t give mmrv before 4. we usually give them separate at 12 months and then the combined at 4
