RIP, Ryne Sandberg

Cubs great and MLB HOFer Ryne Sandberg has passed at the age of 65. I distinctly remember watching live as he and the Cubs burst onto the national scene via the "Ryne Sandberg game" in 1984.

I'm a big Cubs fan and Ryno was one of my favorite players when I was growing up - very sad news 😢😢

One of the best second basemen ever in my lifetime, a true superstar in the field and at the plate. This is sad news to hear of . . RIP Mr. Sandberg
 
He became my favorite player in the late 80's and early 90's. His extended slump in 1994, followed by his sudden retirement, broke my heart. I thought for sure he'd be one of those few guys to end up with 3,000+ hits and 400+ homers.
 
I have a Ryne Sandberg glove.

He was a good one. Remember him and Dunston with his cannon at short.

Others I remember were Dawson and Sutcliffe.

Watched those guys as well as Bob Horner and Dale Murphy with the Braves.
Watched more of the Cubs because the Braves announcers could put anyone asleep. Skip Carey had none of the charisma of his dad.

Man, Sandburg seems way too young.

Definitely a lot of people grew up fans of the Cubs because of WGN or the Braves because of TBS. The neighbor kids I played baseball with were huge Braves fans and they'd watch every night on TBS the same way I would watch the Cubs all summer on WGN. Nothing like that anymore which is kinda sad.
 
One of the greats. WGN being part of basic cable meant an endless supply of Cubs baseball in the afternoons after school (and the Braves with Dale Murphy on TBS). Went to Wrigley several times in the early 90s. Dude was awesome.
