Roll Call: Who is voting early? Who is waiting til Nov. 5 (and why?)

I can't imagine voting by mail unless there was literally NO other choice, and then I would still be skeptical. And I'm extremely liberal so I'm supposed to be pro-voting by mail. Maybe it's because I live in a deep red state so I don't trust the people in charge to not throw my vote away. There's something at least somewhat reassuring about putting my ballot in the machine myself and seeing the number go up.

Is there something in these mail vote states where I can check online and see that my ballot was received and counted? Not that I'd totally trust it but that would be something.

In NC: Voter Search When I put my name and info in, the site old me that I had early voted on October 18th, which was correct.
 
My son voted for the first time this morning. Virtually no line but they made my husband (who went with him as encouragement and to be there as a right of passage moment) wait outside.

My first vote was in May of 1972 when I was 17 years old. Because I turned 18 before the November election day, I was eligible to vote in the primary. The high school I attended rounded up everyone eligible to vote, got us all registered, and then set up a special voting location in the school gym and ran all the eligible students through the voting process. I voted for Shirley Chisolm in the 1972 Democratic Primary for President. She lost. The guy I voted for in November also lost.

I think I was a year behind Julie in school and maybe a year ahead of Mark
 
I was between the two of them in age but ran in enough of the same circles that I knew both of them. Got along with both pretty well.
 
I live in California, where my presidential vote doesn’t have much impact, so I focus on encouraging friends in North Carolina to vote. I just got off the phone with a childhood friend there who initially planned not to vote for either Kamala or Trump, only down-ballot candidates. I asked him, as a personal favor, to consider voting for Kamala, and he agreed. He even said he’d post on social media to share his change of heart. Plus, he plans to drive around eight unlikely voters to the polls, encouraging them to vote alongside him.

In short, he used to believe that any drastic actions Trump might take as president would be kept in check by the system. But after our conversation, he now sees the potential risks more seriously and recognizes the threat these actions could pose to our country.
 
I have a question. When I voted I had one of those blue Democrat ballots in my hand as I was checking in. The poll worker told me to put it in my pocket until I actually got to the voting booth.

In the dozen l times I have voted with a sample ballot, I never been told to do that before. Is that normal? I wasn’t campaigning. For all anyone knew it was just a blue piece of paper.

I was seriously thinking of telling the guy that I wasn’t going to do it.

Anyone else have this experience?

Weird. I always get a Dem and GOP recommended ballot and openly carry them to my voting table. Never have had a comment.
