Ukrainian troops are not completely surrounded. Trump should have mentioned the Russians are being beaten up pretty good at Pokrovsk and toretsk.
I think the plan may be to pretend that Putin’s concession in peace talks is an act of grace of not doing a massacre at Trump’s behest (regarding Ukraine troops in Kursk). Or maybe Trump is just gullible enough to believe that is what is happening on Putin’s say so(?)

Or maybe Putin wants Trump’s help to get Ukrainian troops out of Kursk(?), turning an internal political liability for Putin into a PR and wartime win.

Putin wants a cease fire to remove Ukranian troops from Kursk, re-arm, gather troops then take the rest of the Ukraine.

Thank you for posting. I think what may have happened was that Russia possibly with North Korean troops drove deep to the East of the Kursk bulge thru a thick woody area or something that was lightly defended. That surprised Ukraine due to the lack of American intelligence on Russian Troop movements. The new position allowed the Russians to compromise the central road supply line for Ukraine. Therefore, Ukraine simply pulled back. Had to give up the main town. But they are not surrounded as your post states (according to Ukraine's commanding General)

I think your second take is correct. He’ll take Putin’s word over everyone else’s.

Im sure there are good reasons I don’t know but why can’t the EU replace the weapons and financial support the US has given. I understand the intelligence they give wouldn’t be as good as the US gives, but I would think it would be good enough.
Can they just not supply it? Are they cowards and wish not too.
Are they scared they will force the issue of how far gone the US is and the US starts supplying Russia with money and weapons pushing us closer to a Twilight Zone version of history where the Us and Russia take on Europe.
What am I missing? Why does Trump all of the sudden get to dictate the terms of peace? Ukraine was fine to keep fighting under Biden.

For U.S. weapons like Patriot defense missiles or Himars they can't. Even F-16 support, which they have and have stock, by prior agreement they can't pass to third country.

Things like 155 mm artillery shells, their production is not as high as United States. But they are trying to ramp up. But at the rate that artillery barrels are being worn out on both sides, not so sure this is a major problem.

Financial support, which is not to be underrated, they can. Ukraine's own industry is awesome and cheaper but needs the financial backing. Ukraine's arms industry is one reason Russia wants it so bad. In fact, some old Soviet arms were originally made (or parts were made) in Ukraine and when they are gone they are gone to Russia.

Germany is beginning to produce some new weapons that may be game changers for Ukraine and are just beginning to be shipped. The HX-2 drone, I am hoping could finish Russia's artillery advantage because it can target their artillery due to its further range.

You know Trump and his campaign have to still be laughing at all the the people that bought his bluster and BS. I know that I still do and likely will until the day I die.

Trump says he was being a ‘bit sarcastic’ when he promised to end Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump said Friday that he was “being a little bit sarcastic” when he repeatedly claimed as a candidate that he would have the Russia-Ukraine war solved within 24 hours — and even before he even took office.

Trump was asked about the vow he repeatedly made on the campaign trail during an interview for the “Full Measure” television program as his administration is still trying to broker a solution 54 days into his second term.

“Well, I was being a little bit sarcastic when I said that,” Trump said in a clip released ahead of the episode airing Sunday. “What I really mean is I’d like to get it settled and, I’ll, I think, I think I’ll be successful.”

It was a rare admission from Trump, who has a long record of making exaggerated claims.

Trump said at a CNN town hall in May 2023, “They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that done in 24 hours.”

“That is a war that’s dying to be settled. I will get it settled before I even become president,” Trump said during his September debate with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. “If I win, when I’m president-elect, and what I’ll do is I’ll speak to one, I’ll speak to the other. I’ll get them together.”

The Republican repeated the claim frequently on the campaign trail.

I sincerely hope this speculative take is not true (or at least - worst case/simplest explanation -Trump’s intemperate decision to pull intel sharing was immediately exploited by Putin’s forces). Either way it casts the Trump post about preventing a “massacre” in Kursk in one of several bad to worse possible different lights, from simple regretful of the obvious risks of his decision to stunned dupe to evil collaborator.
