With everything going on, did Lorne ever think it was a terribly stupid decision to not launch the new season of SNL until late September?

Holy hell they are missing some great topics. Weekend update could go for 6 hours.

I've been saying since this summer that it is malpractice not to return early, at least to have 30-minute opening political skit and a news segment.

Strongly recommend the YouTube videos by the name of "The Story of SNL Season ___" They are up to season 12 (1986-7) and drop a new one every Thursday. Interesting to see how SNL developed over the years, the various cast changes, and who the hosts and musical guests were. Each episode is about 20 minutes long, which I consider to be a sweet spot for YouTube videos.

Friend (a good UNC alum) working at CNBC got us tix to a dress rehearsal in 2002. Baldwin was hosting. It was 2+ hrs long. We rushed back to our hotel to see what bits didn't make it. We were dead on.

Didn't they use to do some special Thursday night editions not that long ago? And I'm getting old, so "not that long ago" could be 10-12 years or longer. lol

Answered my own question with a quick Google search.

Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday

Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday is an American limited-run series broadcast on NBC. It is a political satire news show spin-off from Saturday Night Live, featuring that show's Weekend Update segment. It initially ran for three 30-minute episodes in October 2008, during the lead-up to the 2008 United States presidential election.

On March 14, 2017, NBC ordered a three-episode fourth iteration to be hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost, premiering August 10, 2017, and going by the title Weekend Update: Summer Edition.

They can really only put out so many 90 minute episodes in a row before the bits that comprise over half the show run dry. Saw yesterday they announced hosts and musical guests for the first 5 shows of the season which will air 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19 and 11/2. I'm fine with that roll out.

They could have done the weekend update specials that they did a few years ago. That was a success.

The guy who currently does Trump - James Austin Johnson - is great (much better than A. Baldwin).
I assume they'll bring back Maya Rudolph to play Kamala.
