Beast by The Acacia Strain. The spoken part at the beginning (“when somebody needs to be killed, there’s no wrong, you do it!) is Sandra Good from the Manson family. The only times I’ve feared for my safety at a concert have been Acacia Strain shows- also routinely the metal shows with the most conventionally attractive women. Curious!

There’s a lot of scary stuff in black metal, including a band that uses vocals from institutionalized mentally ill patients. But most of that stuff I find kind of hokey.

I was 11 when this song came out. I remember first hearing it on WKIX late in the evening as I was trying to fall asleep. It has haunted me ever since. It is still the scariest song of all.

Name one more frightening if you can.

Scenes from the equally frightening film, Metropolis.

Ok, you win.

What aspect, exactly, is scary about that song?

I think part of the intrigue of this tread is understanding what makes the song "scary".
The content of the lyrics is extremely unsettling. Combine that with the fact that it was written in 1968, and it’s a sort of artifact of how long we’ve been dealing with crises of mental health in this country. Sort of a companion song to Excitable Boy, which was posted above as well.

Same vein...

Love this song and especially this version.

I've never really thought of a song as scary, but it's probably just semantics since I do see many of these as dark.

I've always been one to listen to and appreciate a song for the lyrics more than just the sound.

My best friend in high school would often spend the night on weekends in the late 80s. We' d always throw on the first Sabbath album when the goodies kicked in.
I wish I had a good connection, I could use a nice trip sometimes.
