It used to be the President was the President of the entire country.

Trump is explicitly the President only of the white people who voted for him. Everyone else is his enemy.
This times 100x. Trump has made it clear since his first term that he isn't the president of all the people, he's just the president of those who voted for him and back him 100%. His MAGA followers may occasionally taunt liberals with "he's your president too" but they also know that he doesn't represent half the country's citizens, and they're perfectly happy with that fact. He's never made the slightest effort to win over those who voted against him, instead he revels in using the government to go after them and make them suffer for the effrontery of opposing him. If you live in a blue state like Minnesota or a blue city then you're not a fellow American citizen that he also represents and leads, you're an even greater enemy than any foreigner or immigrant. The MAGA view of the presidency is horribly warped and destructive.

I know I’m an outlier on this but I continue to think a large meeting space is a nice addition to the White House grounds, and the exterior renderings actually look fine. Here’s what I would do —

1. Have Congress appropriate money to return every dime that was contributed by private parties and scrub every mention of those parties from the building.

2. Pass legislation to prevent private donors from funding state buildings in the future.

3. Also pass legislation to require congressional approval before major changes are made to important federal buildings like the White House.

4. Do a full remodel of the interior of the new building to remove all the shitty gold finishings we all know it will be filled with.
I prefer to turn it into a soup kitchen and shelter for the local homeless. That or a petting zoo for visitors.

Does anybody remember when Republicans were appalled by the lack of decorum when President Obama criticized the Citizens United decision in his 2010 State of the Union address? With the justices sitting right in the front row, Obama argued the 5-4 decision "reversed a century of law" and would "open the floodgates" for special interests and foreign corporations to spend unlimited money in U.S. elections. Republicans lost their fucking minds that a President would question a Supreme Court decision. I wonder if they will speak up now?

Of course not, because they're all a bunch of damned hypocrites and because most of our news media now holds Democrats to a very different standard from Republicans. Donald Trump and most other MAGAs can say anything, do anything, be as deliberately offensive and crude and crass and mean as they want, and our media and Republicans themselves will just shrug and yawn. But let Obama wear a tan suit or criticize our GOP-dominated Supreme Court or Hillary (accurately) call many MAGAs deplorable or AOC make a single verbal gaffe like she did a few days ago and these same people lose their damned minds - whatever the Democrat did is a travesty, an insult, a career-ending mistake, a clear sign that they're stupid, etc. MAGAs and their media lackeys literally look for things to be outraged about, and will immediately jump on any mistake or critical remark from a Democrat. Meanwhile our President threatens our Supreme Court and sends his DOJ to harass and persecute his critics and says or tweets batshit-crazy and stupid and horrible things multiple times a day and nobody seems to care. It's disgusting.

“… The CIA announced on Friday that it was retracting or revising nineteen different intelligence reports, dating from 2015 through 2023 — spanning the Obama administration, the first Trump presidency, and the Biden administration. The politicized assessments — many of them focused on DEI-related issues — included pronouncements by the CIA about white women, motherhood, violent extremism, LGBT issues, abortion, and others well beyond the remit of the agency's mission….”

He was a petty, vindictive, venal asshole forever but he is coming completely unhinged by this decision.
Agreed on all counts, but we all knew that it would come to this eventually. He's simply going to try and defy the Supreme Court and do whatever the hell he wants on tariffs anyway, partly out of personal spite and partly just to see if he can get away with it. And given that the Supreme Court has no police force to enforce their decision, and that Congress has no guts to take him on, he might just get away with it. Great constitutional republic we have here!

And Obama was, of course, unequivocally correct in his assessment.
