Somebody tell me about Satan

Estimates for those killed by the biblical god are somewhere around +2M, not including totals from the great flood.

I don't think Satan can match that body-count. He was also saddled with the A&E garden tragedy, where Satan offered knowledge to humanity.

He was also the one angel who dared to question god's authority. You have to ask yourself: who really is the antagonist in the biblical tales?

And the Mormon satan really gets a bad rap. He wanted everyone to get to heaven and Mormon Jesus said, “Not so fast.”

At the risk of taking the topic seriously, the Garden of Eden story originally had zero to do with either Satan or sin.

...where Satan offered knowledge to humanity.
oh, the horror. Puts religion in a different perspective, doesn't it?

I had more than one family member mention to me years ago that they hoped my going to college/pharmacy school didn't cause me to lose my faith. Tbh, it was pretty shaky, even then. But the simple fact that they feared my learning things would cause me to question my religious upbringing is.... an indictment of that religion, if nothing else.

Even that framing--faith versus knowledge--misunderstands the context for the original story. The Garden of Eden story is primarily an etiology of agricultural civilization, which is to say, a story that would explain why life is so fucking hard, why we're not animals but not gods, why childbirth sucks, why farming sucks, and why snakes are dirt penises.

Assuming we are talking about the same entity, there was a six season, 93 episode TV documentary--on Netflix--about Satan. Apparently Satan prefers to be called Lucifer. This documentary really portrayed him in a different light than the typical religious depictions. Seemed like a pretty chill guy, not really evil so much as mischievous. That said, he really had some "Daddy" issues that took him a long time to work through. In the end, all it took was the love of good woman for him to discover his true path/purpose.

Sounds like a Hallmark movie.
