They said it was because my valve was tight, causing the blood to come through it with more pressure like a thumb over a garden hose, causing the aneurysm. At that time the valve was not tight enough to be dangerous but the aneurysm had reached the size they recommend repair. In hindsight I should have just gotten both done at the same time but I didn't want to be a 30 year old on Warfarin and they told me my existing valve would last as long as a tissue valve, so I waited.An ascending aortic aneurysm, particularly at a younger age, is not typical. Was the underlying pathology identified/addressed? I have a friend with MFS and know some folks who study aortopathies. It’s a challenging area from a basic science perspective.
