Best at another sport other than Julius Peppers

Charles Waddell played basketball and ran track but was an All ACC Tight End then played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks and San Diego Chargers (his pro career was not, however, illustrious). Waddell lettered at three sports at Carolina. He retired recently after working in business and the U of South Carolina athletic department.

Octavius Barnes and Greg Little also played primarily football but were on the basketball roster.

Jesse Holley.

Didn’t David Noel start out a football player?
I could be wrong
But I think it was Jesse that came out to yokefellows at Orange County prison a couple times to visit the incarcerated

Highest Threshold of Pain might go to Derrick Phelps. Guy pretty badly bruised his tailbone in the 93 ACC tourney and had some other minor injuries and still helped lead UNC to the 93 national title, despite hurting the whole time through the NCAA tournament. I'm sure there's plenty of other UNC warriors out there, but he's one that I thought of right away.
Which raises the question: who was the toughest of the tough little nuts.

I volunteered at Hillsborough around 40 years ago.
I stopped about 15 years ago
You know Suptd Thum passed away a while back He actually cared about the inmates
Maybe you remember Chaplain Barker ? Great guy dedicated his whole career to that work . From Burlington 1st Baptist. Our Alamance-Orange Prison ministry group was responsible for raising $ from area churches for his salary.
Now that I have stopped being active in Chapel of the Cross I assume they have stopped their annual donation to AOPM

There was a moment in the 1993 Tourney in which Derrick Phelps was hurting so bad and still playing while looking like the walking wounded that Coach Smith asked his teammate and roommate and fellow New Yorker, Brian Reese, “Can he go?” Reese instantly responded, “He can go.” And, Phelps went.

In 1993, Phil Ford obviously was UNC’s greatest PG. Still is.

To me, in 1993, Derrick Phelps was UNC’s 2nd best all-time PG. He might still be. Might. Offensively? No. Defensively? Phelps was other worldly. Phelps and Lynch (and Reese) on the wings scared the shit out of other teams. And, Phelps had a calming influence on the team.

Jimmy Black was called “Boss” in ‘82.

In ‘93, Lynch was THE MAN. They should have called Phelps “The Boss.”

Any new additions after this season? Do we need any new categories?

Most Intellectual and Most likely to be a non-sports millionaire: Rusty Clark - A Morehead Scholarship offer lured Rusty away from Davidson to UNC. After graduating, he attented medical school at UNC. Was a physician in Fayetteville, but left medicine to focus on real estate and got very wealthy in real estate. When Rusty was an intern at Memorial Hospital at UNC, I was working as a night orderly (in Gravely Sanitorium). When we had to move a heavy patient, Rusty would always take the head/shoulders and let me take the feet. Once one of the nurses, who didn't know who Rusty was asked about him and how tall was he. I told her he had been a really good basketball player at UNC and he was "six eleven." Rusty overheard me and said, "I'm really only six nine."

ETA: In re Rusty Clark only being 6'9" As mentioned previously, UNC used a Morehead Scholarship to lure Rusty from Davidson to UNC. The Davidson coach at that time was Lefty Driesell and he was PISSED at losing Clark. Shortly after this, Driesell moved from Davidson to Maryland. So everytime Clark had a great game against Maryland, of which there were many, Driesell would go on and on about the "seven footer" UNC had at center. I think this was Driesell way of tring to upset Clark. So while Clark was always listed at 6'11", he was careful to correct me. So he must have hated Driesell taunting him about being a seven footer.
great stuff here.

rusty's son is a friend of mine.
