It's going to be super interesting to see what Roberts, Kav and Barrett do with the major questions doctrine in this case. I have absolutely no doubt Thomas and Alito will find some stupid way to distinguish it. Gorsuch will probably go along with them. But this may be one where the other three realize there's no possible way to square the legality of Trump's tariffs with their recent decisions. Or maybe it won't.

China has been boycotting purchases of U.S. soybeans since late May to show displeasure with President Trump’s imposition of tariffs on imports from China. The pain is being felt in Midwest states, especially Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Indiana. For the first time in many years, American farmers are preparing to harvest their crop this fall with no purchase orders from China.

“The further into the autumn we get without reaching an agreement with China on soybeans, the worse the impacts will be on U.S. soybean farmers,” the American Soybean Association warned in a letter to Mr. Trump on Aug. 19.

I presume some of the illegal tariff funds will be given to farmers as in 2018/
Trump has gotten US in a vulnerable position when he got into a full trade war with China without being ready for it on rarea earth metals. China played that card completely for the first time and US really has no back-up plam on several rare eartjs critical for US auto. semi and defense indistries.

Had a Dem Prez done anything this strategically stupid and dangrous to US nat; security, Rs would already have drawn up Articles of Impeachment.

“Hundreds of people including South Korean workers were arrested in an immigration raid at a Hyundai Motorbattery plant under construction in Georgia, weeks after the carmaker pledged $26 billion in U.S. investments.

Around 450 people were arrested, said the Atlanta office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in a social-media post. The post described the people as “unlawful aliens.”

The raid and arrests come after months of tense negotiations between the U.S. and South Korea over tariffs and investment. In late July, the two countries agreed that a 15% tariff rate would be imposed on South Korean imports in exchange for South Korea investing $350 billion in the U.S.

The factory is being built by a joint venture between South Korea-based Hyundai Motor and a South Korean battery manufacturer, LG Energy Solution. It is located in the town of Ellabell, near Savannah, Ga., and is part of a $7.6 billion Hyundai complex that the state has describedas the largest manufacturing project in Georgia’s history.

The plant, once completed, is set to supply batteries to Hyundai Motor’s nearby electric-vehicle manufacturing plant, which opened last year. Hyundai has pledged to employ 8,500 people there by 2031 as part of a $2 billion incentive package it received from Georgia.…”

Unless the tariffs are refunded. In which case he'll just divert FEMA funds, which IIRC is what he did in '18. But that assumes he still gives a fuck about farmers.
 
If I were Hyundai and LG I'd pull up stakes while yelling get fucked, sabe a few Billion dollars and tell the 85,00 would be workers in wherever the hell Ellabell is that Trump can find them jobs at the dollar store for minimum wage.
