No child should ever have to send such a message. I told her that of course I would take care of her, and I cried a little.

I'm proud of the people of North Carolina for the way that they have responded to the awful things that have happened here this week. They have delivered groceries and picked up prescriptions for friends afraid to leave their homes. Teachers have escorted their students to and from school. People have stood guard in school yards.


Hundreds of people have signed up for ICE Watch. Restaurants have closed, switched to take out or struggled with half-staffed kitchens. They put signs in their windows explaining that it was "for the safety of our staff members ". Thousands of people have marched in protest in Charlotte, Asheville, Raleigh and Durham. People here are pretty upset. This is the North Carolina that I love.

One more thing- a note to ICE and the Border Patrol. "I was just following orders" was not accepted as a defense at Nuremberg.

A caravan of marked and unmarked Border Patrol vehicles left North Carolina yesterday, November 20th*** But even as they passed the South Carolina state line,CBP said, "we aren't actually leaving."

They mean to intimidate us.

We should recognize that these agents, whose lawlessness has been
condemned by federal judges in Illinois, could return at any time.

But we're not going to let their threats go unanswered.

We choose to build on what we accomplished this week.
Thousands of people working to ensure the safety of hundreds of thousands.

Constantly asking, "What more can I do to make it possible for everyone in my community to be able to live with dignity and without fear?"

Our elected leaders must commit to taking concrete steps toward making that possible for everyone in our community, including immigrants.

To demand that our cities return to what they ought to be:
Communities where people support each other in living with dignity and Without fear.

This morning elected officials joined members in their community to affirm what we know to be true about how we can create real safety.

Elected officials, faith leaders, and business leaders, sign the pledge.

Join leaders across our state like @manolobetancur @rodney.sadler.9 @jordanlopez_ @aishaodew @jd4clt and the dozens of elected officials across our state that have already committed to ensuring that everyone who calls our state home can freely live with dignity and without fear.

“CARRBORO, NC – The Carrboro Town Council passed a resolution on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, that reaffirms the town’s support of immigrant communities and Carrboro’s status as a 4th Amendment Town, urging business, schools, and governments to adopt similar policies.

The resolution follows current events in North Carolina when US Customs and Border Protection agents launched numerous operations to detain, arrest and harass immigrant communities, resulting in arrests of undocumented and US citizen residents, as well as heightened fear and distrust in law enforcement. The Town Council condemned all discriminatory actions.
Carrboro has a long history of supporting immigrant communities and creating a welcoming town to all, no matter their place of origin.

The resolution cites actions of the Town of Carrboro that support immigrant communities, including the adoption of a Language Access Plan, the Racial Equity Action Plan, and the Carrboro Comprehensive Plan.

On May 20, 2025, the Town Council voted unanimously to designate the Town of Carrboro as a 4th Amendment City, reinforcing the town's commitment to honor and uphold the 4th amendment rights of all residents.

Attendees learned the protections individuals and businesses hold because of the 4th Amendment; how to protect against illegal search and seizure operations; how to help deter other kinds of unconstitutional overreach; and how to create a sense of safety and security for people currently being targeted.
