Twenty-nine taken to hospitals across Sydney, police commissioner designates shooting a terrorist incident​


Shooters used long arms; police investigating believed explosive devices inside vehicle

Lanyon said it’s too early to determine where the weapons used in the shooting came from, but described them as long arms.

He said specialist police have located a vehicle in Bondi Beach in which they believe are several improvised explosive devices.

Rescue bomb disposal units are on the scene at the moment.
 
Abdullah Ashrof said he saw two shooters on the bridge as he drove down Campbell Parade at Bondi.

Ashrof, who still had blood on his hands from helping people in the aftermath of the shooting, parked to try and tell people to take cover, and saw a police officer who had a gunshot wound. There were others who appeared dead and injured.

“He was very brave. He was trying to stay conscious,” Ashrof said of the police officer. “We were trying to talk to him…Just trying to help him, hold his hand and there are other people who are trying to wrap his wound, put pressure on the wound.”

Another woman nearby had also been shot, and was there with her children. “I think the worst thing was that two of her kids were right next to her,” Ashrof said. “She was … very brave, trying to stay conscious, trying to talk.”

NSW police commissioner says child transported to hospital but he does not think any children were among those killed

Returning to the NSW premier and police commissioner’s press conference, which wrapped up a short time ago.

Lanyon said he doesn’t believe any children were among the deceased but said that a child was transported to hospital.
 
Hours after the shooting at Bondi Beach, law enforcement officials swarmed a home in Bonnyrigg, a suburb west of Sydney. Two people were escorted out of the house, which was surrounded by a heavy police presence.

Agree that Christian and atheist college students should likewise stop using the phrase “globalize the intifada.”

Remember: that poster has been consistently of the opinion that Israel was showing "too much restraint" in the past year and a half in Gaza. He put me on super ignore, he says, when I accurately described him as fellating Bibi (an opinion shared by many others). He writes inscrutable comments in obscure jargon, often filled with acronyms, to cloak the fact that most of the time he has nothing to say.

He is completely unserious.

The phrase isnt what i was referring to. I was referring to violence. And violence based on religion and politics (which has become nothing more than religious dogma for many) is out of control. Singling out one version and branding it as the sole offender only makes the situation worse.

You are either serious about stopping violence or you aren't.

If this is what globalize the intifada looks like, then maybe you could explain a few things:

1. Why does this style of attack bear such close resemblance to mass shootings committed by non-Muslims? What intifada was being globalized when the shooter in Christchurch NZ killed 50 Muslims? What intifada was being globalized by the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter? Or the mass shooting of black people outside the Wal-Mart a few years ago? Or Anders Brevik?

2. Why does this look like the West Bank -- except in this case it's Muslims with guns and not Israeli settlers? Hundreds die to Jewish settler death squads without even a peep from you, and then you emerge from under your rock when something like this happens.

3. Why has this religious strife been going on for so much longer than "globalize the intifada" has been around? Way more Aussies were killed in a bombing in Bali than here. Was that also the intifada? I had thought that was al-Q, who more or less disdained the "intifada" struggle.
 
NEWSFLASH: There are people and cultures and religions that are not compatible with each other. Not saying any one is better than the other, they just seem unable to peacefully coexist in the same society. We can dream that one day they will be able to but that is not today's reality. Western societies better start protecting what they have but they pass the point of no return.

Describe, with specificity, which cultures are not compatible with one another, and why.

That’s true, but the Supreme Court won’t let us gun haters live in a society without the gun nuts that do almost all of these killings. So what are we to do?
