I wouldn't be against it, but my mom would never go for mixing food styles like that. You could BBQ the turkey. (as in chop it up eastern carolina style)

Don’t think I’ve ever had smoked turkey. Certainly never made one
It is hard to beat fried turkey in terms of flavor:effort
I just dry brine and dry the skin out really well in the fridge for a day or two
Remove and fry for around 40-45 minutes and done
OMG my mom made one of those all through the 1970s and 1980s and still claims everyone loved it. So gross. Lime jello with sour cream mixed in plus canned peas and shredded lettuce and celery and nuts. Mortifying. Off-putting color. My former wife’s family had to have a green jello “salad” for Thanksgiving. Almost no one liked it; but, it had to be made. They even named it - Gacky Green Gunk.
We got this same dish from Drew,'s grandmother. We call them creamed onions. What's the most "old-timey" traditional thanksgiving dish in your family (or really any other dish you would never eat any other time of the year except on Thanksgiving)?
Mine is pearl onions in butter and cream. Passed down from my maternal grandmother. I don't even like it that much, but it's tradition.
I used to love fried turkey. A properly smoked bird was every time.
It was something like that. Plus little marshmallows. Cool Whip might have factored in somewhere.OMG my mom made one of those all through the 1970s and 1980s and still claims everyone loved it. My mom made a lime green jello desert with nuts and marshmallows and fruit and some other weird crap in it for a years and years. She finally stopped after one Easter when she was the only one to eat any and she took maybe 2 bites. My former wife’s family had to have a green jello “salad” for Thanksgiving. If you don't have Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce, do you even have Thanksgiving?NO Ocean Spray gelatinous blob out of a can that’s for sure.
I was an adult before I ever saw or tasted real cranberry sauce with actual cranberries. If you don't have Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce, do you even have Thanksgiving?
I tried real cranberry sauce as a kid, but never particularly liked it.I was an adult before I ever saw or tasted real cranberry sauce with actual cranberries.
Exactly. The blob is far better than any real version.I tried real cranberry sauce as a kid, but never particularly liked it.
I can admit that real cranberry sauce is probably better, but I don't like it nearly as much as the can-shaped cranberry jelly that Ocean Spray perfected.

“A savory jello dish”
Thawing while cooking is indeed one of the safest ways to thaw frozen, raw meat product. The other “best” way is thaw in the fridge just like the charts describe. Too many folks just thaw it out on the countertop for a day or two… not advisable.Thaw, what's that? I just take it out of the freezer and drop it in the fryer. YOLO.
As someone required to eat a few bites every Thanksgiving for years as a kid, no, no it does not make sense.“A savory jello dish”
That makes NO sense.
It does seem weird for a “jello-type” dish to be thought of as something other than sweet, but Aspics as well as some gelatin salads can indeed be considered savory. But not usually a favorite amongst the kiddos.“A savory jello dish”
That makes NO sense.
AutoLOVE for BOD.
